70% of mums looking to return to work early

A survey shows around 70% of mums are looking to return to work early to beat the recession.

Over two thirds of mums are looking to return to work earlier than planned because of the recession, according to the Avon Mum-Economics Study.
One in three of those questioned said they felt the need to get a job immediately and 86% were worried there weren’t enough jobs for mums looking to return to work.
The main barriers to returning to work were the perceived lack of flexible working and childcare costs.
Twenty per cent of mums were looking to return to work for financial reasons, while 27% were worried how the recession might impact on their family income. One in 10 feared their partner would be made redundant in the next year.
Some 41% of the 1,000 mums surveyed thought they would gain more self esteem and a greater sense of identity from returning to work with 30% looking forward to being part of a team and 26% to having more financial independence.
