Trying to find my first job: ask the expert

Trying to find my first job: ask the expert

I came to the UK last year after graduation.  Now I'm a mother and a housewife. I decided to find a job because I feel that I'm wasting my diploma... I graduated in mathematics, but not from an English university... I think that it is a problem to find a job here. I tried to send some CVs out, but I got no answer. My child now is big enough that I can work.  Please tell me where to start. I would like to work full time in accounting, finance, statistics or something relevant. I want to work in a job where I could grow and build my experience. I want to show myself that these four years of studying wasn't wasting my time. During my studies, I was working in statistics for a year. It is difficult to find a job which is the best for me as a mother and being from another country makes everything more difficult even if I have university diploma.

How can I get a job as a teacher again? Ask the expert

I qualified as a teacher two years ago whilst my son was young, thinking this was a good move for when he was older and a career I love.  Problem - I have been looking for a job ever since and not stepped foot into a classroom as a teacher since.  I have registered with supply, I have applied for over 100 jobs, part time, full time, job share as a classroom helper - anything and everything including dinner lady. I now have the problem, not having been in a classroom for two years I am being over looked and told I am not up to date, despite going into schools volunteering and being a private tutor. When I apply for non-teaching posts such as a receptionist, cleaner and fruit packer,I am told I am overqualified and should be looking for teaching as this is what I am qualified in, but there are no jobs! I am going around in circles, what should I do to get a job in any sector?

Where can I find a job that has flexible working hours? Ask the expert

I am looking for an HR Manager or Advisor role either part time or as a job share. There are very few roles to apply for that offer flexible hours like this. I am not sure whether to apply for full time jobs and ask to work part time? I would like to find a job share partner but not sure how to go about it. I am getting disheartened by the lack of part time roles. Can you help?

Writing a CV for the first time: Ask the expert<br />

Writing a CV for the first time: Ask the expert

I don't really know how to write a CV or fill in an application form as I've never had to do either.  I've only done two jobs in the whole of my career (I worked in an office for 20 years, then moved to do night shift as a care assistant and also work on a casual basis for the local hospice).  Now I feel a change of career and shift pattern would suit me better.  I love working with people and I love to care for them.  I would welcome any advice.
