Changing family friendly working hours: ask the expert

When I returned to work after my second child I was offered a job that meant a different shift pattern and childcare problems. Then I tore a ligament at work and had to have time off. My boss told me I was being removed from my position because of my sickness and would have to reapply for family friendly hours. Can he do this?

Time off for sickness: ask the expert

I work as a school dinner lady, but have had time off for health problems both for myself and my eight-year-old son who had emergency surgery. I was told that this was not acceptable and I should get someone else to look after him while he recovers. I walked out, saying I would resign. Do I have a case for constructive dismissal?

Shift work and breaks: ask the expert

I work from home, online, as a bingo chat room host. We work 6 days per week, on average 40 hours. We get 28 days holiday per year, but we don’t get bank holiday except Xmas Day/time in lieu. We often have shifts finishing at 3am, followed by a 10am shift the same day or even at 7am! Is this legal?

Changing part time hours: ask the expert

I returned to work in January having agreed part time hours. I am now being asked to change my days as another part time worker is due to return after her maternity leave in July. My contract says I may need to work flexible hours, but I will find problems finding childcare on alternative days.
