Return to work after seven years: ask the expert

I have been an at-home mum for seven years now and am now trying to get back to work. I have a background in sales and marketing administration, but would be happy to try something new. However, I want to still be there for my girls at least until they're in high school (they're 6 and 9 now). Where can I find part-time/term-time work or homeworking opportunities that don't involve me selling to friends who frankly are as strapped for cash as me! I could be classed as a single mum since my partner works 7 days a week, 11-12 hours a day and have no-one who can babysit for me either. At least not on a regular basis. I fear I couldn't earn enough to cover childcare fees. Also will my long absence from work affect my chances in finding a position?

Looking to return to work in the IT sector: ask the expert

I have almost sixe years' work experience in the IT sector. I resigned from my job in 2008 to take care of my child. Now he is three years old and goes to nursery. I have started applying for jobs again, but am not getting a very good response as I have a gap in career. The recruitment consultants instead of asking me about my technical skills ask me questions like how is my job hunt going, how many interviews have I been called for etc. Can you suggest the right approach for me to get positive results?

Using my skills: ask the expert

I have a bachelors degree in telecommunication engineering from India, but due to a lack of work experience, I could not get a job in this field. I worked in the property market as a letting agent for three years, but have recently left the job. My daughter is going to be one and I want to go back in the telecom sector once I start looking for a job in few months. Will anyone hire me in this sector? What should my strategy be to get the job I want?

Returning to work in the UK: ask the expert

Returning to work in the UK: ask the expert

I completed my LLB Degree whilst still in the UK and was offered a job at an auditing firm in South Africa. I worked very hard and after two years I was promoted to Head of the Forensic Audit and Legal Department and acting CEO. I got married and fell pregnant. I then resigned from the firm due to ethical differences I had with management. After giving birth I served as the financial manager for my husband's business and did freelance work as and when available. Last year I had my second child and took up employment with a local advocacy group as a home-based researcher and analyst. My husband has now sorted out all of his affairs and we are ready to move back to the UK. I am now looking for a full-time job with flexibility as I will be sending the kids to daycare, their ages are 3 and 1. My problem is that now I don't know which sector I am qualified to apply in and what level or salary I should be asking for?
