After eight months' maternity leave I had a meeting with my employer to discuss my return and was told I was returning to my job as I left it and therefore had to return five full days. When I came back I have only been given back about 70% of it. I find myself with very little work to do now on a daily basis. Am I entitled to request a
change in hours now? I feel I was misled at my return to work meeting.

I am a full-time working mother with three children (8,6,2). I have a lower back problem which restricts my mobility in the mornings. I have to get my children up, ready, rush to school and then get on a dreaded motorway for work at 0900. Most days, I am slightly late - 15 minutes or so. However, I assured my boss that I take the amount off my lunch break, so I am not taking anything from the employer. I have been with my employer for 10 years and have just had an appraisal where they have highlighted my time keeping. I explained my situation and asked for some support, to be told to an extent, it was not their problem. Is this correct and fair?

I have been working for a well known national company for over 15 years. For the last two years I have been working from home under a local agreement with my manager. During that time I have performed well
with excellent reports from my manager. I also work out in the field so spend a lot of time in my car. Recently my manager has changed and the new manager has given me one month's notice to "get back into the office"
His reason is that everyone in the office makes for a more productive office. He cannot give me any
reason for personally getting me back in the office and he says the decision is his alone. I have a 13-year-old daughter and although it would not be easy juggling I could just manage. However, they are moving
my office a further 50 minutes drive away. This will mean that I have no chance of fulfilling my role and juggling my daughter. Do I have any rights to continue working from home as it has been working so successfully for the last two years?

I have returned to work from maternity leave part time as I requested. However my hours were still to be finalised. Today we were advised that one position in my team of four is to be made redundant. I was then advised that my application for part-time hours has now been declined as they only need 3 full-time staff [I'd be the only part-timer] so I need to come back full time or no position is available and if I do come back I have to reapply along with the other three and the best three will be kept on and one let go. Where do I stand in all of this?

I am planning to return to work in September after taking my 52 weeks maternity and some owed holiday. I am wanting to request flexible working and have found forms etc to help me do this. However, my hours were not 'fixed' as I am a head chef in a hotel and my contract states that I work 39 hours or to the 'needs of the business' which seems to be a very loose term! I do my own rotas and those of my staff and this consists of a mix of early, mid and late and split shifts. If we are low on staff I can end up doing 70+ hours or 6 / 7 day weeks to cover. If myself or other staff mention we feel we are working too much we currently get told if we don't like it we can go. I don't think my request will be successful therefore. A few colleagues have told me they think my boss doesn't want me back. Also, I am not sure how to word the request as my hours were never set in the first place. Any suggestions on how to go about this woud be much appreciated.
