Q And A
The benefits of self-employment: ask the expert
What are the benefits of being self-employed? I have been made redundant recently and am thinking of setting up my own business, but I am worried about taking too much of a risk with my money, given the current economic uncertainty.

Being self employed means that you have more control over your own time and future. It is you who is responsible for what hours you do, when, and how hard you work during them. However, if you don’t put the work in, you will not get the results, you may not be able to pay yourself and unfortunately, you risk losing your business.
Being your own boss can be very liberating and mixed with the added security and support of a franchise, this can be a extremely fulfilling route, but with any business the first few years can be the hardest. It is these first few years that you need to put the extra time and effort in to build your market and customer base to support you in the longer term.
