I get paid an annual bonus. This was paid last year, despite no key performance indicators being in place, without question. I have worked for my company for four years, in this time I have covered my manager and deputy manager many times whilst they have been out, I was the only other key holder and had all the responsabilites of a senior member of staff whilst they were away. I am currently on maternity leave and before I left my manager told me she was trying for a baby, I made her very aware I would like to cover her maternity leave whilst she was away if I could. Since I have been away she has become pregnant and is due to leave in October, I am due to return in November. She has recently told me that covering her job role will be my deputy manager which I have no problem with and covering his will be a girl who has been employed in our Birmingham office for two years, who is currently covering my maternity leave. Is it right that I wasn't considered for the job? And wasn't told about it so that I could apply? I have asked for a meeting with her where I plan to ask why I wasn't considered, but this has really offended me, to the point that I want to leave and am really upset about having to go back! I returned to work four weeks ago after taking 10 months maternity leave. It is a long story so I will try and shorten it, while on maternity leave I had a new manager and my old manager moved to another department. During my maternity leave there were changes to my position, it basically meant my role was being split up. I had very little contact with them during maternity leave and was not informed of any changes, most of the information came third hand. I really wanted to to retain the same or similar position which they were aware of but wanted to work four days a week. I was delighted when they said this was possible. I met up with my new and old manager who informed me that things had changed but there were lots of opportunities for someone with my skills and experience. I was excited about returning to work however I then found out that my new manager, who I had only met properly once was leaving. I went into work on my first day back and had a brief meeting with the new head of department who explained he was getting to grips with his new department and not making any important decisions. It then transpired a few days later that I was to be demoted because I could only work four days a week. This decision was made by a manager who had never worked with me. I complained to the new head of department, who was taken aback, I followed this up with an email and the following week he said it would be okay and they would come up with a job description. That was three weeks ago and I am still waiting, I chased them last week and he said they had a meeting but he needed to make changes to the job description. This has caused much stress as I really enjoyed my previous role, I am pretty sure the new job description will still be a demotion, please can someone advise me what rights I now have and how I should handle the situation? I am currently on maternity leave which is due to end the second week of September, and I did inform my employer that I would be taking additional maternity leave until January 2011. Although since I have been on maternity leave the company have been sold and the office I worked in has been relocated to an area out of my remit with a young baby! My company has made me aware that the office has relocated and sent a letter to me informing me that the consultation of an office move was taking place. I have since decided to return to work earlier than planned and, will be informing my employer that I will be looking to come back to work in October 2010... although the new office location is not accesible for me.Where do I stand? I have two children aged seven and one. I returned to work last November. I've worked for the company for 11 years and held a managerial position, but after having my children I didn't feel I could commit to that particular job fully. I therefore returned on an admin basis for two days a week. I love my job and love working the two days. My youngest attends nursery and is at the stage where she is catching everything going. Since starting back at work in November she has had gastroenteritis twice which has meant that I have had a total of three days off counted as 'time off for dependants' on two separate occasions. I am fully aware that I won't be paid for these days and nor do I expect to be. I have just been called into a meeting with my manager to discuss my attendance and he said he has been asked by the director to talk to me to put it in writing. I questioned this and asked what the next course of action would be if either of my children were ill again - after all, I cannot guarantee they won't be. My manager didn't really know - he was just acting as the messenger and he actually felt it was an unjust conversation and could see that I had no alternative but to take the time off when the children were ill. My manager asked HR if the meeting had to be documented in writing and they said at this stage it was just a chat. I didn't feel as if was a chat at all. I feel totally under pressure about the situation and I am worried about what will happen if either of my children are ill again. There are other mums in the office too and they have had time off in the past, but I know that they have not been spoken to and what's more they have been paid, but I am happy not to be paid. There are also other people within the office who have got far worse attendance records than me and they also have not been spoken to. I feel as if I am always treated differently to everyone else as I've worked directly under the director for many years before he was a director. My manager also said he was in a foul mood because his car had been hit before he came to the branch and that may have prompted him to act in the way that he has. Can they put pressure on me for the time I have taken, given that it has been unpaid and taking into account that the illness was short? Please could you advise me? Thanks.…
