I am currently on maternity leave and was recently called into my employers for an 'update' meeting with my HR Director. Whilst waiting in reception a colleague of mine advised me that a communication had been sent out across our business to advise that my maternity cover had been awarded my role permantently. I had not been told. Once in my meeting HR confirmed this was the case and advised that the new MD did not want any changes and that my replacement was up to date with the new strategy. They offered to find me an alternative role. I have been with the company for six years and in my current role for a year. Earlier during my maternity leave they switched off my phone and also told me in a meeting that my role could not be done part time. Can they force me into an alternative role?

I currently work two days per week and have done so for four months. Before this, I worked a four-day week. I cut down my hours as we relocated and I couldn’t travel four days per week into central London. This was all agreed by my company and a new contract was issued. The company was bought out two months ago, and my new MD has said I need to work five days a week (with more responsibility but no salary increase) or leave. I have told them that a five-day week in London is impossible for me, so I am being made redundant. I am on one month's notice and have been at the company less than 2 years. I am being offered my notice period plus five weeks’ salary. I feel I am being forced out of a job that I am good at (they tried hard to persuade me to take the five-day role) and enjoy and that the compensation offered is minimal. Can I do anything?

I have a week of maternity leave left until I'm due back at work. However, my employer today informed me that I'm no longer required to go into work so as not to inconvenience me due to upcoming alternative staffing arrangements that need to be made after reviewing company profit and loss summary and financial statements. I informally requested flexible working by email three months before returning to work, but my employer put off answering my request with seemingly legitimate reasons. After I pushed them for an answer again, I was verbally informed by a senior colleague last week that my request had been approved. However, today I received a formal letter rejecting my request for flexible working due to structural changes as they are closing our office. They also informed me it's unnecessary for me to commence work in two weeks and they will pay me until a meeting in three weeks with my other colleagues about how the structural changes will affect our roles. I'm feeling shocked and worried that I am to be made redundant and unsure about what to do from here. As my informal request for flexible working was by email does it mean it isn't valid?
