Bright and Beautiful scoops home-based business award

Manchester-based franchise Bright and Beautiful has won Home-Based Business of the Year at this year’s Barclays-Forward Ladies Women in Business Awards.

The domestic housekeeping franchise business delivers eco-friendly cleaning, tidying and ironing services and has enabled 36 professional women from all different career backgrounds the opportunity to run a highly successful franchise business from home, enjoy flexible family-friendly hours and be their own boss.

The company has just achieved a turnover of £1.8m after just six years in business, and plans for the same growth rate in the next three years.  Founder Rachel Ray’s business model has enabled women from a varying number of career paths including lawyers, accountants, teachers, nurses, sales managers, HR directors and bank managers to set up their own business, and manage it in the way that suits them.

In total all the franchises across the UK employ over 160 people as Professional Housekeepers and give them job security through family-friendly hours, NI contributions, paid holidays and the opportunity to be part of an expanding team.  The domestic cleaning sector is predicted to grow by 3% between 2012 and 2015.

Ray [pictured] said: “The win is testament to the hard work invested in Bright and Beautiful by the whole team.  Home-based businesses are a fantastic way of working and Bright and Beautiful is a shining example that you can take charge of your life, run your own highly successful professional business from home with hours to suit yourself.

“The empowerment that running your own business gives a person in turn generates confidence and the belief that you can achieve your goals.  I still work from home most of the time which is a great situation to be in.  The flexibility it offers means running the business can fit around other commitments such as children, studies or charity work and I can still have a better quality of life.  The franchise system we operate means we have 42 expanding businesses under our umbrella and they in turn offer their employees great working terms.  Our expansion plans for the next three years are set to double the business and the award gives us even more motivation to ensure that Bright and Beautiful franchisees continue to grow and offer the most outstanding home based business to work for.”

Tina Lowes, Regional Business Director for Barclays said: “At Barclays we recognise that women in business are a major contributor to the UK economy and we’re delighted to be celebrating exceptional achievements in tough economic trading conditions.

“These awards encourage an environment that supports women on their entrepreneurial journey and they are a fantastic opportunity for ladies across the region to network and share ideas and knowledge. We’ve been amazed at the volume and calibre of the entries – which proves there are some fantastic businesses out there competing in what is set to become one of the country’s top awards for business and professional women.”
