Single parent charity Gingerbread has published some tips on how to cope during the Christmas period.

Gingerbread Chief Executive Fiona Weir said:  “Christmas is a great time for families to celebrate and have extra time together but it can also bring real pressure and feelings of isolation for parents who are on their own and with little money.  We hope our Top Tips will lighten the pressure and be of practical help to any single mum or dad who would like ideas and support for the Christmas break."

The Factsheet for single parents Christmas Top Tips 2010 includes tips on:

– Sorting out contact arrangements for the festive season with the children’s non-resident parent
– Spreading costs, managing on a low budget and what to do if you hit a crisis
– Keeping it sociable and fun, getting local support and avoiding isolation

And there’s a list of specialist organisations which can provide help or back-up during the break.

Christmas Top Tips 2010 is available to download at www.gingerbread.org.uk or from Gingerbread’s free Single Parent Helpline on 0808 802 0925.
