WorkingMums.co.uk was founded by senior communications manager Gillian Nissim in 2006 after the birth of her second child. She found herself and many of her friends in a similar position, needing flexible yet challenging work, but not being able to find it. The business has grown fast and now employs 12 staff, many of whom are working mums.
As working parents, we’ve experienced the issues associated with going back to work after an extended period at home, suffered crises of confidence, undergone career changes and managed (and are still managing) our way through the ups and downs of combining parenthood with work we enjoy. We know what it is like to try and find jobs and business opportunities that are challenging and rewarding, but which also offer flexibility.
As employers, we also know that it is not always easy to find really good, experienced and committed people - and know that offering a range of flexible working practices - including full time with flexible hours, part time, compressed hours, homeworking and term time only - can really help secure the perfect employee.
We work with hundreds of employers - from large corporate firms to small businesses, and have a large database of professional women seeking work in a wide variety of fields. Candidates register for free and can file their CVs, whilst employers pay a small fee to post their job on the site and contact candidates who match their requirements. Who we are:
Gillian Nissim - Founder
A former Senior Communications Executive, Gillian has worked at a number of different organisations with very different cultures and attitudes towards family friendly working policies. After the birth of her second child she decided to set up her own company to cater for the businesses who did appreciate the vast experience and high calibre of professionals who had become mums, and wanted to find challenging and interesting jobs that offered more flexibility than traditional office-based Monday- Friday, 9-5 jobs. A graduate of Birmingham University, Gillian lives with her husband and two boys (aged six and four) in North London.
Dionne White - Sales Director
Dionne joined the company in 2008 as Sales Director, and works to ensure that WorkingMums is the first choice for recruiters, and that we can deliver the best possible job opportunities to our audience. She has over 11 years experience in online advertising, and 9 years experience of online recruitment. Over the years she has helped launch several market leading job boards, and has managed others into market leading positions. Dionne lives with her partner and 2 children in Epsom.
Jill Purcell, Key Account Manager
Jill joined WorkingMums in September 2008 after a short career break from 10 years in Business Development in the Marketing industry, where developed and ran large scale consumer marketing campaigns for clients including Capital One, Phones 4 U and Mars Foods. Jill appreciates the huge talents that working mums offer and is driving this concept through with key recruiters in the private sector. Jill is a busy working mum herself with two lively sons aged five and three.
Rachael Wenham, Key Account Manager - Franchise
Rachael joined WorkingMums in 2007 after having her second child. Prior to this she spent five years working in recruitment and four years managing a team where she was the recruiter. She has two children, a son of seven and a daughter aged two.
Michelle Jones-Walker, Key Account Manager - Corporate
Michelle joined WorkingMums a from Addvantage Media as a Corporate Key Account Manager in March 2009. Michelle has over 12 years Sales and Account Management experience across recruitment and media advertising working for companies that include Trinity Mirror plc and Yell Ltd.
Katie Cleary, Key Account Manager
Katie has over 10 years experience in corporate sales and account management in a career spanning a variety of sectors including publishing, media, IT and public affairs. She joined WorkingMums ins Spring 2009.
Liane Birchall, Account Manager - Self Employed and Display
Liane joined in April 2009 and having previously worked 8 years in display, creative solutions and online sales for The National Magazine Company. Prior to this she had 12 years experience as media planner/buyer for various advertising agencies/media independents in Manchester including Mediaedge. Liane is a busy working mum herself with two children.
Mandy Garner, Web Editor
Before WorkingMums, Mandy was features editor of the Times Higher Education Supplement for nearly eight years and currently divides her time between editing for WorkingMums, and acting as the press officer for a higher education institution. She has three children, aged nine, six and four and lives in Essex. Read Mandy's blog.
Becky Knapp, Web Producer
Becky joined Workingmums at the start of 2009. Prior to this she worked as a Web Producer for various TV companies including Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and CNBC. She has one daughter aged 2.
Annika Williams, Marketing
Annika joined WorkingMums in 2007 after spending nine years as the marketing manager at a publicly quoted Media and Events company. A marketing graduate from Leeds University Business School, Annika has two daughters aged six and one, and lives and works in Bedfordshire.
Arline Wilkins, Marketing
A Chartered Marketer, Arline has over ten years experience working across the marketing mix, in both the public and private sector. Arline has a one year old son and works from home.
Tarryn Rothstein, Team Co-Ordinator
Tarryn joined working mums early in 2008. With her background in sales and having worked for Douwe Egberts for eight years coupled with her extensive PC skills, Tarryn now co-ordinates many of the day to day WorkingMums tasks. Tarryn lives with her husband and two young boys in Hertfordshire.
