Families Magazine ®

Work from home and achieve the perfect home life balance. Work is varied, interesting, challenging and fun!

Successful applicants will be responsible for putting together their own A4 parenting magazine for their area. You'll be working on a variety of things from editorial and adverts to designing and distribution. This will suit creative people/team leaders who want to play a useful role in their local community.

Families magazines are loved and trusted. We believe in quality, community magazines that mums really need and use. We review local shops, restaurants, write about local businesses and list thousands of days out and things to do with the children locally. Mums tell us that our magazines are a lifeline, and we are very proud of this. It is also a lifeline for our advertisers whose businesses rely on the exposure Families magazines give them. Advertisers are so pleased that we have a very high renewal rate for adverts.

Families Magazines launched in South West London in 1990 and has grown into a strong, well-known brand across the UK. The magazines are local and informative and aimed at ABC1 parents of children aged 0-12 years. Our website Familiesonline.co.uk launched in 2000 when the internet was a baby too! Because we have been going for over 19 years, you will be able to tap into exciting assets and knowledge, saving you huge amounts of time and money.

Case Study

When FRANCES first picked up a copy of Families magazine she was immediately impressed by its content and mission. As a busy mum of four with a professional background, the information that Families contained was both relevant and interesting to her and her young family.

After several months preparation, planning, brooding (and the occasional sleepless night!) her first edition of Families Upon Thames was born. Frances freely admits it was nerve-wracking, but also immeasurably exciting. A fellow franchise owner had told her that seeing the first issue hot off the press was akin to the euphoria of giving birth – and as she took delivery of her first bundle of magazines, Frances couldn’t disagree!

By the second issue the inevitable pressure and worries of a new venture were lifted considerably; word had got around about this fabulous new resource for local mums (and dads!) and the magazine was being well received throughout her district’s playgroups, libraries and local schools.

Frances stresses that self discipline is absolutely key. You need to be self motivated to run your own business. But being 100% in control of her business meant that Frances could arrange her workload to suit herself whilst still having plenty of precious family time.

On-going training opportunities throughout the year keep her up to speed with sales, marketing and publishing trends. Any feelings of isolation often associated with working from home were diminished by the ‘just on the other end of the phone’ attitude and friendliness of all the other franchisees.

After six years as editor of a thriving publication, her enthusiasm for her work was clear: ‘I am earning in excess of £30k a year, and that is on just 6 issues a year! (the highest has been £45k).’ However Frances stresses that ‘advertising sales do go up and down; advertising sales are never guaranteed. I work around my family and from my own home. It’s the best job I’ve ever had!’
