Case Study
Lucy Jane Titterton - Mickleover, Derbyshire
Lucy wanted to give something back to her community and found the values of The Creation Station could help her achieve a fulfilling and rewarding business opportunity Lucy Jane Titterton passionately believes that strong relationships are crucial to a child’s development. As a new Creation Station franchisee she is now able to pursue her ambition to support families as they build those vital bonds.
“After completing an NVQ in Business studies aged 19 I worked in admin, sales and then a variety of management roles but really wanted to work in the field of child development,” admits Lucy Jane. “I took the first step towards this by gaining a Degree in Education Studies. My aim was to run parenting sessions and I began to write my own programme that would build up the closeness between a parent and child.”
Then Lucy Jane discovered the Creation Station – an award winning and successful educationally based programme where families enjoy art and craft creativity in a fun and relaxed setting. “My life changed overnight! Here was a ready-made package that could fast-track me to building my own business, doing something I truly believed in. It was an opportunity to invest in myself.”
After attending a Creation Station Discovery Morning, where potential franchisees see children and their parents/carers participating in the programme, Lucy Jane was convinced this was the perfect business for her: “I could see the potential immediately it mirrored my own thinking and aspirations.”
“My classes are growing and I am involved with many partnerships in my area. I’m l very excited and my head is spinning with ideas. I have big plans for my business and I’m delighted that at last I have the chance to fulfil my ambitions and support families in my area.”
Lavinia Thompson – Codsall , Staffordshire
Lavinia decided she didn’t want to work for someone else but didn’t want to start a business from scratch Lavinia Thompson had sold her first business and was looking for her next successful venture. This time she didn’t want to do all the groundwork herself and was hoping to be part of an established network. The Creation Station franchise ticked all the boxes and has given her a way to balance her work and family life.
“I had decided that I couldn’t look after my young family and be answerable to someone else at work. I wanted the independence and control of my own business and saw that with the Creation Station I could also be part of a team. The concept is so simple and marketable and it would give me a way to explore my long-neglected artistic side as well as earn a living,” explained Lavinia.
In preparation for her first sessions in the Wolverhampton area Lavinia identified densely populated areas with a high proportion of young families and found venues close to local amenities. Her successful marketing plan attracted locals to her first sessions and caught the attention of local press.
“My classes grow by almost 100% week on week in the first month and my first half-term holiday session was fully booked well in advance of the date. This has been an encouraging start and I am confident I have found something I enjoy, that keeps me busy and generates an income without compromising our family life. Parents will always seek out new activities to stimulate pre-schoolers and kids will always love to paint so I see this business keeping its appeal year on year”
Jackie Farrow - Guildford
Jackie wanted to ensure she had time with her pre-school children but wanted to steadily build a rewarding business that could grow further when they started school. What the Creation Station offered seemed almost too good to be true! A chance to turn an activity that I loved into my own business that I could fit around my two children, and expand as they grow older. The reality is proving as good as the promise though! I love every minute of the sessions and parties, especially seeing the children's excitement when they try a new activity or create something amazing. It's great to see parents enjoying themselves so much too, and encouraging their children to experiment and discover things for themselves.
The support from Head Office and the network of franchisees has been great, and the franchisee forum is worth its weight in gold, not only for providing answers to (sometimes random!) questions, but also for the sense of community it encourages between geographically remote colleagues. The training was really valuable, particularly in the areas which were completely new to me such as marketing, and it was great to be able to practise running real sessions and get feedback from the experts!
I'm delighted with how quickly my business has taken off, with full classes and lots of parties in the next few months. I can't wait to develop it more each year as my children grow up and start school, though they love being part of it at the moment. it really is the perfect work-life balance franchise Perhaps my biggest compliment has come from my 4-year old daughter, who watched me setting off for a Creation Station party and called down the road "Mummy, your classes are REALLY GREAT!"
