The Sunday Mail You Magazine Features Faye McDonough
In June 2010 mum of two Faye McDonough, 31, was working three jobs in order to look after her young family. Today she runs a successful and award winning domestic cleaning business in south Manchester with a £650k turnover and is aiming higher still.
Following her divorce in 2005 Faye found herself working three jobs to look after her family - at a playgroup in the morning, at a school nursery in the afternoon and then an after school club in the early evening, as well as studying for an NVQ at night. She then met Rachel Ray who ran Bright & Beautiful, a radical, ethical and eco-friendly domestic care business that was set up to support women and their families in the UK and overseas.
Faye bought the first franchise and now runs the operation across south Manchester. In 2010 she was awarded Commended Start-up Business of the Year in the Trafford Business Awards and now manages to combine a highly successful career with her family life.
BBC News Features Bright & Beautiful Franchise Owner Pam Barrett
Pam is a mum to two young boys aged 5 and 7. She discovered Bright & Beautiful on the Working Mum’s website last year. Since then she has successfully grown her business so in October 2013 BBC NEWS North West Tonight featured Pam in their report on the economic recovery. The BBC Economics Correspondent commented “A year ago Pam Barrett was a high flying Vice President at one of the city’s big bank HQs, after facing redundancy she bought a business and is now boss to six staff”. The report concluded “Pam is just what the economy needs!”
Claire spent 14 years working in marketing communications for a number of finance, technology and education clients, organising events as far afield as Cape Town in South Africa. At the beginning of 2012 she was facing redundancy at the marketing agency she worked for.
As a single mum Claire was struggling to find a job that would enable her to still have a well-paid career and work around her seven year old son Blaise. Then she decided to put her organisational talents to good use by launching a Bright and Beautiful in Towcester. Claire says “I really liked the concept Bright & Beautiful offer to its clients and knew that if I really liked it others would too. From my initial telephone call to request a prospectus I liked the friendly, open and professional approach. From my meeting with Rachel Ray I knew that I already believed in the company ethos because the company not only cares about helping it’s franchisees build a rewarding business, it also cares about the environment, its team members, the clients and providing an excellent service, as well as helping charitable causes”
Nicola, who lives in Rawtenstall in Rossendale, originally qualified as an electrical engineer and went into the telecoms industry when she left university, building a successful career managing and negotiating customer contracts and bidding for new business. Like many working mums Nicola really wanted to spend more time with her family (husband Simon and sons Tom, 15 and Sam, 12) but struggled to fit family life around her busy career.
In 2001 Nicola started retraining as an accountant and working as a freelance bookkeeper, before launching her own Bright and Beautiful franchise in October 2011. Nicola says “One of my main requirements with starting a franchise was to keep start-up costs as low as possible – I didn’t want to go into a retail franchise and have to rent premises and buy loads of stock before I could even start trading. A lot of franchise opportunities I looked at involved long hours. Although my children are older they still need time and attention e.g. taking to drama or swimming club in the evenings, plus I have a lot of my own activities in the evenings, so with Bright & Beautiful the flexible day-time hours which fit around other things was a big attraction to me. Plus an added bonus of a Bright & Beautiful franchise is that I get my own house cleaned!”
