Why I chose franchising

I always had the idea that one day I would like to work for myself, as I am an extremely self motivated and driven individual. However, I had never been clear on the type of work that I would like to manage and also where to start!!

I had heard about franchising and thought that this may be a perfect way for me to run my own business but with a support network and proven business model in place.

What I did before taking up a franchise

I have worked within an HR discipline for the past 15 years, within large private organisations. Whilst working within HR I continued to build on my professional development achieving a Masters Degree in Strategic Human Resource Management.

How I raised the finance

I managed to raise finance through a Bank Loan.

The training and support I receive from my franchisor
The support and training that I have received has exceeded all of my expectations. At the initial start of the relationship I received a very comprehensive Induction Programme and supportive material. A majority of the training was completed face to face. Since launching my business Head Office are always available to offer support, guidance and act as a fantastic sounding board. I also receive regular review meetings; this enables me to review progress to date and also focus on future development.

The challenges I have faced

Setting up a new business is extremely daunting, and also launching an unknown brand in a local market is a challenge, in terms of raising the profile, knowledge and concept of Popstars Academy. It has been extremely important for me to take things a step at a time, as setting up the foundations of the business is critical to future success.

My advice to someone thinking of buying their first franchise

Research is the first step it is important to really look into the business model and also that the Franchise you are considering is recognised by the BFA. Also, it is important that the Franchisor is very open to meeting with you and takes the time to answer the many questions that you are bound to have!

My plans for the future

It is a really exciting time for Popstars Academy in Devon as we continue to develop and grow our business across the region. This fits hand in hand with the future growth and success of Popstars Academy nationwide.
