The Unicorn Theatre is looking for a highly experienced finance professional to take on a part-time role with senior strategic overview of the theatre’s finances.

You will be a key member of the senior management team, and feed into the strategy and operations of one of the UK’s most exciting producing theatres, based in central London and playing to audiences of around 90,000 each year.

This job would suit a senior work returnee or retired finance professional who is interested in overseeing a busy theatre and charity.  The Unicorn’s Finance Director has both a strategic and operational role, keeping a close eye on developments in the charity, tax and funding sectors, and working with the Executive Director, Board and auditors to ensure that Unicorn financial practices are accurate, transparent and competitive, and that the theatre is in robust financial health.  The rest of the team comprises a full-time Manager and part-time Assistant, and works closely with the theatre’s leadership to support strategy and annual budget- and target-setting.

The ideal candidate will have a recognised professional financial qualification and knowledge of Charities SORP, with a proven track record as a successful finance professional.  You will demonstrate familiarity with management accounts, financial legislation, cashflow and year end accounting.  You will have a sound grasp of business management, including proven skills in risk analysis, forecasting and problem-solving, and the ability to interpret and communicate financial information.  You will advise the Executive Director and Board, and have a demonstrably forensic eye for detail.  Familiarity with cultural exemption in VAT would be a benefit.  You will have an empathy for the charitable aims of the Unicorn, and we expect all staff to show a clear commitment to diversity in all its forms.
