Job Details

The Business Design Directorate, part of the Community Banking Chief Operating Office has specific responsibility for a wide range of decisions relating to the Lloyds Banking Group estate of c2000 branches (Lloyds, Halifax and BoS) including the number and location of those branches (footprint) and their physical design and "look and feel". The estate is the largest of all the UK Banks and indeed, one of the largest UK retail estates.

As a Test Manager, you'll be responsible for the creation, monitoring and reporting of tests, in support of the DSR programme and beyond. Testing and measurement are essentially components in the development lifecycle - setting clear and measurable targets for success, and defining upfront how those targets will be assessed.

The Test Manager will also spend time with front line colleagues, adding important insight to the outcome reports, and helping initiative owners to distil the real insights for future iterations

The team...

How do we make our physical presence a competitive advantage in a digital age? What role does face-to-face banking play in serving our customers' diverse and fast-changing needs? What does a branch look like in 2025? Does face-to-face banking have to be limited to 'branches' as we know them? The Distribution Strategy team exists to develop the Group's vision for our physical banking proposition.

In the immediate-term this means providing strategic steer to the Distribution Strategy Review (DSR) programme - owning its investment plan and translating it into action. The team also co-ordinates and is responsible for a portfolio of 'tests' which are critical to understanding the impacts that DSR is making, and guiding future strategic direction.

We're a small, performance-focused team within the Community Bank's Business Design Directorate (BDD), allowing you to build relationships with senior leaders within Retail COO team and across the Group.

The environment will be demanding but rewarding, as we'll set ourselves high standards. The capability to work collaboratively across the Community Banking COO, demonstrate thought leadership and deliver quality outputs to inform business decisions will be very important.

The role offers a high level of exposure to senior executives, including working closely with the Business Design Director, giving excellent opportunities for future career development.

You

You think in a straight line and can effortlessly reduce complex problems into simple compelling narratives. You naturally ask the big questions and you never forget what you're solving for. You're a numerical-native; a logician who takes pride in showing their workings. You're not afraid to challenge when you see an opportunity for improvement, and you thrive in ambiguity.

All this combines to make you an enthusiastic problem-solver. You quickly dismantle problems into their constituent components, line them up in your head, and assemble elegant and executable solutions.

But you recognise that your analytical super-powers would go to waste if you weren't a master communicator. You intuitively combine your visual, graphical and numerical skills with your precise use of language. You're easily understood and don't struggle to hold a room. You're often complemented on your clear and impactful slides. You're a future leader with vision.

Here's what you'll be doing...

  • Guide the development of robust tests, working with initiative owners to understand their business objectives and translate them into hypotheses, using the best practice framework
  • Draw on qualitative and quantitative sources of evidence to create a robust measurement plan for future tests
  • Work in the field to understand the performance of the tests in real time, drawing on customer and colleague feedback to bring meaningful insight back to support the test outcomes
  • Lead and curate a consolidated view of tests, blending multiple sources of data to generate objective conclusions, and abstract general findings to other initiatives
  • Respond to requests from senior stakeholders and forums for updates on initiatives
  • Ensure good governance and stakeholder engagement is embedded into approach

What do we need from you...

  • You'll have strategy experience and able to relate different pieces of information to make connections and see patterns, drawing this into frameworks that can be used to interpret complex situations
  • You'll be able to identify issues, obstacles and opportunities and develop effective solutions
  • You're able to communicate complex stories with confidence and simplicity to provide compelling recommendations; written, oral and via powerpoint
  • You have an ability to identify and work with key stakeholders across the business to gather information and refine outcomes
  • You're able to identify pertinent sources of information, assessing their credibility before interpreting and / or triangulating them to develop fresh insight

Lloyds Banking Group is committed to building a workforce which reflects the diversity of the customers and communities we serve, and to building an inclusive environment where all our colleagues can be themselves and succeed on merit. We support the principles of agile working and are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We're an equal opportunity employer and deeply value diversity within our organisations.

Together we make it possible.

As well as a competitive salary, this role offers:

  • Car (or allowance)
  • Flex cash sum
  • 30 days holiday (plus bank holidays)
  • A total reward package that offers discounted lifestyle, financial and protection benefits you can tailor to suit your lifestyle.
