Job Details

From shutting down the Khmer Rouge’s illegal logging industry, to uncovering the truth about blood diamonds, Global Witness confronts corruption and the systems that enable it.  Our investigations reveal who is misusing power and disregarding human rights.  In the face of climate change, this work has never been more urgent.  And we have never been more determined.

We’re looking for a Forests Investigations Team leader to join the team at an important time in its evolution.

This role could be open as a job share or on a part time basis.

About the role

The challenge is clear: our climate-critical tropical forests are being destroyed by the unsustainable practices of commodity companies.  Your team’s investigations will raise awareness around the world about the rapid destruction of the world’s remaining tropical forests. These investigations will support our advocacy objectives and shape campaigns that target the role of private finance in driving deforestation.

About you

A journalistic or investigative background in human rights, environmental or corruption issues, and a real talent for leading teams.  Investigative instinct combined with excellent project management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of people and perspectives is essential.

Working for us

We aim to create an environment where people can work autonomously, be themselves and where they are energised to drive their work forward. But we know that at times they may work in difficult and unstable environments.  Because of this we put our employees’ wellbeing at the heart of everything we do and their safety is our priority.

Our ethos is reinforced by a simple leadership philosophy; we are transparent and open with our people and each other. We trust, develop and enable everyone to do amazing work and reach their true potential.  We know that the best results are achieved when we work together and we place a strong emphasis on collaboration and team spirit across the organisation and with our external partners.

We do our best to make our jobs accessible to all regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation or identity.

We offer an excellent benefits package including a competitive salary and 25 days holiday (exc. Bank holidays) private medical insurance and flexible working arrangements.

Company

We want justice for those disproportionately affected by the climate crisis: people in the global south, indigenous communities and communities of colour, women and younger generations. We want corporations to respect the planet and human rights, governments to protect and listen to their citizens, and the online world to be free from misinformation and hate.
