Introduction

The Equal Rights Trust (The Trust) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental international human rights organisation which exists to eliminate discrimination and ensure everyone can participate in society on an equality basis. We work in partnership with others around the world to ensure the adoption and implementation of equality laws. We pursue our objectives through advocacy, litigation, development of resources, and movement building.

The post-holder will play a crucial senior role in our London-based team. You will be joining an organisation whose core values include diversity, transparency, collaboration, partnership and excellence. We are a motivated team of individuals, each with their own sphere of responsibility, working within a friendly, supportive and collaborative environment. As an organisation, we seek to maximise flexibility in part to remove barriers to employment for those who are unable to take a 9-5 role.

The new Head of Operations will be joining the organisation at a key moment in its development. Last year the Trust launched its new five-year strategy and restructured its internal operations to make the Trust more efficient and effective. As part of this process, we have modernised our financial management system and developed and launched new policies and procedures in areas such as risk management and human resources. The Head of Operations, who reports to the Co-Directors and sits on the Senior Management Team, will be responsible for the oversight and implementation of these policies and the Trust’s operations more broadly as well as ensuring the Trust complies with its obligations to its donors. In the coming year, the Head of Operations will also be driving the optimization of the operations team to support the programmes team in income generation efforts.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated individual with initiative and experience, looking to play an instrumental role in the development and growth of an international human rights organisation. In addition to supporting the Co-directors and the Board of Trustees in growing the organisation, you will also use your leadership skills to oversee the Trust’s financial, human resource and office management. The role will suit a highly organised individual with excellent communications skills, who is keen to innovate to help the charity grow.  The working arrangements of this role have been designed to be flexible in order to maximise the possibility that those looking for a part-time role to combine with caring responsibilities or for other reasons, are not excluded from applying.

Company

The Equal Rights Trust was established in 2007, with a mission to combat discrimination and promote equality as a fundamental human right and a principle of social justice. We were founded to pursue and promote the right to equality as a right to participate in all areas of life on an equal basis, which requires taking a holistic, comprehensive approach to different inequalities. Since our foundation, this approach has provided the conceptual basis for all our work, which focuses on how to achieve equality through the enactment and implementation of equality laws.
