Victim Support is looking for Independent Victim Advocates in Sussex.

Victim Support (VS) is an independent charity for people affected by crime in England and Wales. We work towards a world where people affected by crime or traumatic events get the support they need and respect they deserve.

The successful candidates will be required to co-ordinate and provide a tailored support package to the most complex, high risk and vulnerable victims of crime and those who are persistently targeted. It will include support for victims of domestic and sexual violence, children & young people. As an Independent Victim Advocate (IVA) the successful candidates will offer a single point of contact, providing immediate emotional support and undertaking a structured needs and risk assessment in order to develop a full end to end cope and recovery support plan. Multi agency focused, the role will coordinate support from other service providers across both statutory and non-statutory agencies, and also the voluntary sector in order to meet the needs of the victim, help recovery and increase resilience.

Identifying and building strong links with partner organisations that can provide additional support services is essential to the success of this role. Experience of delivering a service and working one to one with clients or service users in a statutory, voluntary or community setting would also be beneficial.

Excellent IT skills are essential as is the ability to record, store and process data for reporting purposes.

Applicants will have a good understanding of confidentiality and safe working practices and maintenance of records in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations. In addition they must be able to demonstrate an active commitment to promoting equal opportunities and diversity. It is also essential they can demonstrate they are able to work without direct supervision, that they can prioritise work and deal with competing demands in an organised and methodical manner.

The role of Independent Victim Advocate will require extensive travel around East Sussex, Brighton and Hove and West Sussex, therefore a full driving licence and access to transport would be desirable. Travel beyond Sussex will be required on occasion in order to attend training, meetings or other events. Based in Shoreham-by-Sea or Crawley the appointment will be subject to satisfactory checks made by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and will also require Police Vetting Level 2 clearance.

This role is for 37.5 hours per week but part-time hours may be considered.
