You'll be instrumental in delivering a pre and post contract specialist commercial service, offering mentorship and recommendations to your colleagues to maximise commercial opportunities and mitigate risks. As Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for one or more supply chains – such as temporary labour or construction plant – and will develop and deliver cost management and reliability improvement plans.

  • You'll partner with customers, learning their needs so our supply chains are clearly understood, and they know how to request goods and services in an efficient way
  • Manage assessment and valuation of contractor’s applications and processing of payment certification. You should feel comfortable challenging Cost elements
  • Manage cost reporting of all allocated accounts including Cost Forecasting, Anticipated Final Cost, Cost of Work Done, Gross Billing and Current Contract Value.
  • You'll provide timely and accurate commercial reporting.
  • Manage one or more supplier relationships, including measurement of performance and regular review meetings
  • Support local or national procurement processes, feeding in knowledge of customer requirements and efficiency opportunities
  • Management of any variations to contracts that may be required and assistance in processes any claims
  • Undertake final account settlements and internal reconciliation, encouraging the demonstration of efficiencies by undertaking cost analysis of completed projects
  • Provide support with pre and post contract procurement activities and estimating resources
  • Monitor, handle and report on all commercial aspects of allocated accounts, flagging issues and proposing mitigation actions at the earliest opportunity to Senior Commercial Manager
  • Identify and advise on all commercial risk/claim events

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • An understanding of railway and construction industry and related supply chains, including commercial and contract administration processes
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills and attention to detail
  • A willingness to engage face-to-face with customers and suppliers across the route, and deal quickly with any urgent requirements or risks
  • A desire to learn about a range of supply chain management techniques and a dedication to structured improvement

Desirable

  • Knowledge of construction and/or railway industry contracts
  • Membership of an appropriate professional organisation, or working towards membership

We follow a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the following pay range: £39,514 – 44,453.
