Overview

Amey employs 19,000 staff across the UK, services 125 clients in the UK, USA and Australia. And we want to recruit someone with high level commercial experience to our highways business. We have won the Highways England contract for Area 10 (Cheshire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester and South Lancashire) and so we are building a new team to establish, maintain and continue to enhance our relationship with HE over 15 years.

Amey will be responsible for cyclic maintenance, incident response, defect rectification and severe weather treatment in the region.

This team will be responsible for developing the commercial team, managing and maintaining our relationship with Highways England and subcontractors, managing payments, submitting variations and early warnings, producing monthly reports and CVRs. We are recruiting one of two Commercial Managers in the team who, between them, will cover the sets of particular skills required for each area of work.

What will you do?

We welcome candidates who have highways experience but if you have solid commercial management experience from another sector we'd be pleased to hear from you. You will need to show us that you have the skills required to create, oversee and sustain contracts with the client, negotiate and make decisions on prices and terms and ensure that the overall business remain sustainable. We would like you to show us that you have a applicable quantity surveying degree or other relevant commercial experience which would equip you for this role.

Who are we looking for?

That's what you need to do. But who will you be? At Amey we believe that, once staff have got the skill required, we want to create teams that combine people who have different personal experiences and backgrounds will enable the team to understand and serve our clients better, bring insight to the complexity of contract issues and relate to the changing population of the area. We want the team members to combine their individual difference and use their breadth of backgrounds and skills to build trust with, and develop innovative approaches for, the client and the sub-contractors.

Also we want to invite applicants who bring ideas in from outside their team, solve problems in unconventional ways, contribute their perspectives actively to the work of the team and are able to challenge each other in a positive way and with respect. By celebrating the difference people can bring to this team, we want to create a really enjoyable, collaborative and productive place to work.

If, from your life at home and at work, you can bring perspectives to this role, that are different from those often seen in this area of work, we will give you an enthusiastic welcome. Amey is determined to offer opportunities to people from groups underrepresented in our sector.
