Communications Officer - Operations & Communications Centre (OCC) Leek Wootton, Warwickshire Fixed term contract until 31st March 2020 Part time - 25.9 hours - there are 2 different shift patterns available. The closing date for this role is Thursday 2nd May 2019 In order to ensure resilience and to reflect the significant training investment, the post of Communications officer is subject to a minimum two year tenure period. This means you will be unable to apply for any internal vacancies for a period of two years from the commencement of your appointment. This post is also subject to a 12 month probation period. The main purpose of the role is to receive and record emergency and non emergency requests for policing service, determining the level of response required and providing resolution at the first point of contact, where appropriate. Main Responsibilities: To receive and record requests for service on appropriate systems. Making an initial assessment of the threat, risk of harm and vulnerability and subsequently determining the initial level of response in accordance with the Deployment Principles, Force Procedures, National Standards of Incident and Crime Recording and providing resolution at the first point of contact, where appropriate. To manage slower time non dynamic requests from Police resources via Operational Service Desk practices. To update, analyse and interrogate IT records and intelligence systems in accordance with Force policy, Management of Police Information (MoPI) and national guidelines To assess the threat, risk of harm and vulnerability and record initial details of people reported as absent or missing onto the COMPACT missing person system To provide timely updates to victims and witnesses when the initial response times are unable to be met and if appropriate, inform them about the outcome resulting from their request for service. To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required, including cover for colleagues, as required. Experience/Skills: Experience of working as part of a team Proven ability to gather information and to prioritise tasks whilst under pressure Proven ability to gather and collate information using appropriate questioning techniques and create and maintain accurate records Proven ability to work under pressure, managing high and varied work loads in a customer service environment Good keyboard skills- able to type as a minimum 35 words per minute Competent in the use of IT including Microsoft packages Proven ability to communicate both orally and in written form with a wide range of people Good data input skills Special Conditions:  - Required to wear a uniform - Shift and week-end working - Unsocial hours - Exposure to disturbing/unpleasant tasks - Occasional travel  within Warwickshire and West Mercia Policing areas. - Hearing Test - Night working - Tutoring of new  members of staff We want our organisation to be as diverse as the community it serves.
