Title: Data and Communications Analyst

Location: Westminster, London

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £30-35k depending upon experience

Start: June 2019

The Data and Communications Analyst will play a pivotal role at the EEF, working in both the Communications team and the Dissemination and Impact team, helping to ensure the steady flow of information and messages between the EEF central office and its newly formed regional teams. The role will also include being the central coordinator of the Research Schools network communication.

We are looking for a creative, purposeful individual who enjoys working within a small, focused team and is passionate about using evidence to improve education for all young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) is an independent grant-making charity dedicated to breaking the link between family income and educational achievement, ensuring that children from all backgrounds can fulfil their potential and make the most of their talents.

We aim to:

  • raise the attainment of 3-18 year-olds, particularly those facing disadvantage;
  • develop their essential life skills; and
  • prepare young people for the world of work and further study.

We support teachers and senior leaders by providing free, independent and evidence-based resources, designed to improve practice and boost learning.

We do this by generating evidence of what works to improve teaching and learning, funding rigorous trials of promising but untested programmes and approaches.

We then support schools, as well as early years and post-16 settings, across the country in scaling evidence to achieve the maximum possible benefit for young people.

The EEF has used a number of methods to disseminate its evidence to schools. As well as publishing and disseminating its resources (such as the Teaching and Learning Toolkit, guidance reports and evaluations of individual EEF-funded projects), the EEF has adopted more active approaches – including regional campaigns based around guidance reports; promoting evidence through the Research Schools Network; and incentivising schools to adopt effective programmes through Excellence Funds.

As part of the next phase of its scale up work, the EEF is developing a new approach to regional work, which includes an expanded Research School network and regional coordination of school improvement support.

The Data and Communications Analyst will play a central role in this new strategy in two key areas. The first will be to ensure the steady flow of communications between the EEF central and regional teams, including being the central coordinator of the Research Schools network communication. The second will be to develop and maintain the database of contacts and schools in the Research Schools network and provide analysis and insight for regional teams on reach and engagement across the EEF’s dissemination activities.

The role is part of the Communications team but will involve day to day working with the Dissemination & Impact team. For further information on the background of our Regional Delivery Strategy please visit our website and see the webpage 'Supporting school improvement in the regions'.

Communications

  • As part of the central EEF communications team, you will coordinate the communications for the EEF regional teams, ensuring the regional and national messages are joined up.
  • Work collaboratively and strategically with the Digital and Communications Officer who is responsible for the EEF website, newsletters and social media strategy.
  • Lead the development of high-quality, timetabled content for monthly Research School newsletters, blogs and websites, including designing and writing content as well as commissioning, editing and providing support for new authors.
  • Be proactive in your support to improve and develop the communications strand of Research Schools and the Research Schools Network, seeking out new and innovative ways of how evidence can be communicated to teachers
  • Maintain the entire Research School website, including liaising with our website developers, to ensure the content is consistent, high quality and readily understandable to teachers.
  • Coordinate the strategic development of the Research School website ensuring synergy with the EEF website.
  • Growing the number of first-time and repeat visits to the Research School website
  • Act as the first point of contact for queries from Research Schools regarding their individual pages.
  • Be proactive in developing content, resources and tools to support Research Schools in their efforts to build networks with schools on evidence-based school-improvement.
  • Develop and drive the social media strategy for Research Schools to increase engagement with schools.
  • Regularly updating social media content for out-of-office hours, and supporting the Research School network in maximising the engagement of users with EEF resources.

Data

  • Develop systems to manage the collection and maintenance of data from Research Schools and regional teams.
  • Support the Research Schools and regional teams with analysis, insights and intelligence derived from the data to inform their planning, development and support. This would include, but not limited to:
  • The extent of engagement from schools including communication (newsletter receipts and opens, social media, attendance at events)
  • School involvement in training and school to school support;
  • Participation in EEF trials.
  • Provide regular analysis of the overall reach and engagement of the EEF and its regional delivery partners to help understand the successes and challenges, particularly in relation to school and local characteristics.
  • Provide regular updates to the Head of Dissemination & Impact and wider EEF executive team on the overall reach, engagement and impact of the EEF’s regional scale-up activity, and compare this to other initiatives and approaches, within and outside education.
  • Support better knowledge sharing across and between regions particularly around tracking engagement with individuals and organisations.
  • Working with other EEF teams to help monitor national campaign messages and scale-up activity to inform their development.

You will be joining a small and focused team driven by an ambition to deliver real improvements in educational attainment, especially for disadvantaged pupils.
