Description
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for a manager to take the lead role for the BAS Supply Chain Logistic (SCL) team. As the Head of Supply Chain Logistics you will be delivering one of the most extreme supply chains there is. The team facilitates the annual resupply of BAS Antarctic stations and supports the logistics of science projects across the continent.
We are looking for a highly organised manager to lead the SCL team and to work closely with all BAS teams to deliver a reliable supply chain service. BAS is currently undergoing a major infrastructure modernisation programme, as a result, a primary objective of this new post is to bring change to the BAS supply chain network in line with the overall organisational change.
Purpose
To lead the Supply Chain Logistics (SCL) Team and services, providing strategic and tactical leadership for the BAS SCL services and network. Continually improving services and delivering resilience across the logistics network.
Qualification
Associated qualification to supply chain management and Dangerous Goods qualifications would be desirable, but not essential.
Duties
To work closely with the BAS operations programming team to ensure operational alignment and service provision.
To oversee the full cycle of the BAS supply chain and logistics including: -
o The quality of BAS inventory management (influencing a well-timed supply chain to the SDA and South)
o BAS Procurement interface with UKSBS (relating to all goods routed to South)
o BAS Goods in-and-out services
o BAS Packing services
o BAS Freighting services
o BAS Portside loading and unloading
o BAS Dangerous Goods compliance
o BAS Central warehousing services (including BAS polar clothing)
To provide leadership and continually improvement for the administrative processes supporting SCL. This function includes championing the BAS digital systems to deliver efficiencies and integrated services.
Help develop the BAS central warehouse concept to provide improved storage, resilience and flexibility across BAS.
To provide safety leadership and driving a good health and safety culture.
To ensure biosecurity is fundamental to the BAS SCL services, working closely with the BAS Environment team.
Manage the environmental performance of the BAS supply chain.
Oversee and manage the quality of all third party contracts providing a service to the BAS SCL.
Provide UK management of the services provided by the BAS Stanley Office (Falkland Islands)
With other department heads, develop the BAS logistic network & central warehousing concept to meet the needs and changes of the BAS Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Project (AIMP) and the RRS Sir David Attenborough (SDA).
