The Organisation is looking for an Information and Data Protection Manager to join the Digital and Data Solutions team in Peterborough on a permanent basis. They are statutory advisor on UK and international nature conservation to the UK Government and the Devolved Administrations.
As part of the Digital and Data Solutions team you would be providing support and creating innovative solutions to all digital, data and IT related work, as well as providing information management advice and guidance to teams across the organisation. The team leads and supports both internal and external projects across the full range of their work and includes a small team of highly skilled developers.
Job Role:
The role will involve having a good, broad understanding of their work and particularly being able to integrate information management and data protection with a broader business understanding. The post will involve the management of a small team of data specialists within the organisation. The post will assist the Team Leaders and Director in delivering Data Protection responsibilities, and an Open Data policy for the organisation.
Job Duties:
* Responsible for liaising with DEFRAs Data Protection Officer, and advising teams on how to handle their data protection responsibilities
* Conduct Data Protection audits, breach notification processes, and other Data Protection responsibilities as required by the DEFRA DPO
* Oversee the revision of the suite of Information Management Policies and provide oversight on their implementation, including the creation of training and guidance
* Support the teams to deliver Open Data in line with the organisation’s ambitions
* Manage all aspects of a broad range of projects, from conception to successful delivery, both internally and through external contracts
* Line manage and perform day-to-day management of a team of data specialists, encouraging good data practice and developing a broad range of skills
* Maintain a broad understanding of the business, including the adoption of new approaches and priorities (such as Natural Capital and Open Data)
* Liaise between internal/external project partners and the data specialists within the team including the drafting of data flows, processes and prioritisation of work packages
Key Requirements:
* Good understanding of data protection issues and the ability to apply this knowledge to support specific areas of business (Essential)
* Good understanding of data management practices, open data principles, and awareness of key policy/legislative drivers around accessibility of data (Essential)
* Good understanding of data lifecycle from discovery to archiving (Essential)
* Excellent communication skills including writing effective policies and protocols understandable by a wide range of staff (Essential)
* Working knowledge of contract management and processes; including writing an invitation to tender, evaluating tenders and managing effective delivery (Desirable)
* Knowledge of managing a project budget within financial systems (Desirable)
Hours of work:
Normal hours of work for the post are 36 hours per week over a 5-day period, Monday to Friday. Flexi time is available.
Annual Leave Entitlement:
The annual leave allowance is 25 days per year, rising to 30 days per year after 5 years service. There are also 12 days public and privilege leave. Staff appointed on a part time basis will receive this pro rata.
