Part Time DietitianBand 7Cardiff20/05/2019 - 16/08/2019Stroke Rehabilitation Dietitian3 Days Per Week

The role is 3 days a week Band 7 for the stroke rehabilitation unit which is a 40 bedded ward where patients are transferred to for rehabilitation. It is a strong MDT focus with board rounds and integrated assessments. Specialist advice is given to patients with nutritional problems post stroke. Assessing patients who are deemed nutritionally at risk, advising on the nutritional adequacy of modified texture diets, the transition from artificial nutrition onto oral diet, and addressing secondary prevention.

Ongoing assessment of nutritional risk post stroke is required which includes monitoring of a number of different parameters.

Nutritional deficits develop throughout the rehabilitation phase indicating the need for more structured monitoring of nutritional status in order to reduce its potential impact on length or stay.

The lead Dietetic role is key in raising awareness of the impact of malnutrition on recovery post stroke, liaising with catering departments to ensure provision of appropriate, nutritionally adequate meals for dysphagic patients. Experience of IDDSI is essential as well as enteral feeding and discharging to home enteral feeding. The role will work alongside a Band 6 dietitian 2 days a week.
