Job Details

To complement the continual growth of Macquarie within EMEA and support the Asset Finance business, we are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our finance team in Reading.  This is an excellent opportunity to gain a unique insight into Macquarie in EMEA and to grow and contribute to a high performing and expanding business

Reporting to the EMEA Finance and Reporting Lead, you will assist in the preparation and development of business performance reporting and distribution to key contacts in London and Sydney. This will include, daily origination analysis and reporting across all flow channels and vehicles channels, preparation of daily Bank Rec and New Business Rec and liaising with various functions to clear any reconciling items and weekly New Business vs. Budget reporting with variance analysis.

You will also work with stakeholders across other support functions and the business development representatives of the various channels to maintain accuracy of the latest business volume view versus budget throughout the month.

In addition, you will assist in the preparation and development of monthly management accounts reporting cycle and associated reconciliations, including monthly portfolio & Business Channel Analysis, month-end Bank Rec and New Business Rec and preparation of monthly sale of Intercompany receivables.

Key to success in this position will be your strong attention to detail and innate numeracy, with a natural curiosity to follow up and challenge when they don’t make sense. Your intellectual agility to understand the core systems to extract data for regular and ad hoc purposes and ability to build strong relationships with colleagues across all levels of the business will also be paramount to your success.

Ideally, you will have some experience in a junior financial position (e.g. junior accountant/accounts assistant) with intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills. A tertiary education in finance/commerce and progress towards a professional accounting qualification (i.e. Chartered Accountant) would be desirable.

Above all, you must be comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, where tasks and priorities will change regularly. You will be a team player who invests high levels of energy into your work to achieve both individual and team goals.

Working at Macquarie

We believe in providing a positive environment for all our staff that is innovative and inspiring. For our female staff, Macquarie’s senior leaders are actively involved in increasing the representation of females in management positions.  In June 2014, we launched a mentoring programme for females, with the following two objectives:

  • Address female retention rates at Senior Manager level and improve our diverse pipeline of talent;
  • Engage female Senior Managers by providing tools and support around their personal development;

The programme pairs up Senior Managers with Directors, who meet on a monthly basis, and are supported by active group sessions (bi-monthly) with an external facilitator.

We select some of the brightest minds to help us in solving complex challenges for our clients.  We recognise that recruiting talent from varied backgrounds is essential to improving our understanding of the marketplace, and enhancing creativity and problem-solving capabilities in our businesses.

Because of this, our commitment to you is to create a diverse and inclusive workplace regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity or cultural background.

We make this commitment not only because it is the right thing to do but it opens up a world of opportunity, securing the future of our people, our success and our business
