Principal Psychologist

A permanent position, part-time position over either 3 or 4 days has arisen with a private client based in Cheshire or Bedfordshire. The role is based with an established provider of specialist clinically informed care and education in a therapeutic environment for young people with complex needs.

The company is seeking to recruit a Principal Psychologist to join their team working across Bedford and Congleton regions. You will be the expert leading by example, through your own experience and knowledge. You will be very much expected to line manage and supervise.

You will have both operational and organisational responsibility for all clinical support services. This will include the commissioning and supervision of associate clinicians and alternative therapies.


Desirable experience -

Post doc level training in clinical psychology - ideally with around 3 years of post qualification clinical experience.

HCPC Registered

Eligibility for Chartered Status with the BPS


Experience of working with young people, ideally in the residential childcare sector is ideal.


Job Summary:

  • To ensure all operational services understand the company’s clinical model
  • To work with operational leads to facilitate and support best practice in the homes and schools
  • Liaise with external agencies about the company’s clinical services and delivery
  • Support the referrals and placements process where required
  • To conduct initial assessments and other clinical service tasks as and when necessary
  • To ensure the clinical services provide the support outlined in the clinical model making sure all initial assessments, therapeutic plans and reviews are in place and communicated and monitored effectively
  • Provide regularly scheduled progress updates on all placements using recognised assessment tools and demonstrate clear outcomes of therapeutic interventions
  • To ensure the systematic delivery of high quality clinical consultation and training to care and education teams and a high quality psychology service to young people
  • Line management and supervision of in-house clinicians.
  • To be responsible for the commissioning and management of associate clinicians, including case/service allocation and quality assurance of the clinical delivery and support
  • To work within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service
  • To ensure the systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional supervision and support of all psychology staff working for or on behalf of the company
  • To review and monitor clinical KPI’s to ensure the service delivery is effective
  • To manage the clinical budget
  • To carry out audit and research activities as required
  • To contribute actively to policy and service development
  • To monitor all clinical consultancy work
