Rated 'outstanding' in its most recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection. The Martins was completely rebuilt in 1999. The original home was one of twelve built or adapted by MHA during the 1960s. This was a period in which possibilities for new homes were emerging throughout the country, while the organisation's income meant that it was well able to respond to the enthusiasm for such facilities.

Nowadays, The Martins stands in its own grounds, with many en suite rooms looking on to the historic Abbey Garden ruins and the River Lark. Residents can make use of a purpose-built hair dressing salon and a small internal courtyard.

In May 2006, the home's registration changed in order to accommodate increased community dementia needs. It established progressive new places for 22 residents with various types of memory loss.

However, residents at The Martins are not only supported by its staff and state-of-the-art facilities. The home has volunteers from all over the Suffolk area who assist staff daily to provide the best possible care and support for residents. Many also help in the day time with group and one-to-one activities. It is a family of residents, staff and volunteers who together make The Martins a special place to live.

The Martins is committed to providing alternative therapies such as music therapy to residents, while our Chaplain offers pastoral support to all, whatever their beliefs.
