We are looking for two diligent Business Support Officers to aid the Business Support Manager to ensure that MO Business Support is aligned with survey and inspection priorities. You will also be providing general administrative support within the Marine Office. 

Role Responsibilities 

As part of your responsibilities, you will be expected to: 

• Support the work of the Divisional Business Unit on a daily basis from the Marine Office with work undertaken on the Shipping Accounts 
• Provide administrative assistance to the MO Surveyors in order to meet UK obligations 
• Maintain the Cash float and paperwork for banking of cash and cheques, and report back to the BSM. 
• Maintain PPE, H&S and other procedures for the Marine Office 
• Provide support to the BSM across a range of duties 
• Provide general advice to industry and public in accordance with MCA policies, including MO public counter service. 
• Provide business support assistance to the Secretary of State's Representative (SOSREP) and/or MCA Counter Pollution Unit, following a major maritime incident within the UK area covered by the Marine Office 
• Provide business support assistance to the Enforcement Unit 
• Co-ordinate the Marine Office Business Continuity Plan and take part in the annual desktop exercise. 
• Provide administrative business support (including telephone answering, filing and post duties) and Secretariat duties to the Marine Office for internal/external meetings. 
• Assist with Marine Office recruitment activity (for both surveyors & support staff) 
• Take responsibility for own health and safety and are equipped to understand health and safety risks. 
• Ensure that timely initial, in-year and year-end Performance and Development Management Report (PDMR) reviews are completed. 
• Respond in a timely and responsible manner to the contents of Agresso "in boxes" to agreed timescales and, if required, complete weekly timesheets on Agresso by agreed timescales.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is an executive agency of the United Kingdom working to prevent the loss of lives at sea and is responsible for implementing British and international maritime law and safety policy. It is also responsible for land based search and rescue helicopter operations from 2015.

Its responsibilities include coordinating search and rescue (SAR) on the coastline and at sea through His Majesty's Coastguard (HMCG), ensuring that ships meet international and UK safety standards, monitoring and preventing coastal water pollution and testing and issuing Merchant Navy Certificates of Competency (licences) for ships' officers and crew to STCW requirements The organisation is led by Virginia McVea, its Chief Executive, who took up post in February 2023.The MCA are chiefly responsible for the syllabus and national training standards issued by the Merchant Navy Training Board (based at the UK Chamber of Shipping).
