We are looking for an exceptional leader to join our Aeronautical Rescue Coordination team (ARCC) at HM Coastguard (HMCG). 

ARCC is responsible for initiating a Search and Rescue (SAR) aviation response to requests from HMCG, Police and Category 1 responders under the Civil Contingencies Act and the military. The team also coordinates HMCG fixed wing aircraft as well as coordinating aeronautical rescue for both civil and military aircraft in distress. 

As ARCC Manager, you will be accountable for the leadership and management of the ARCC team while being aligned with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s (MCA) and the wider Civil Service's corporate vision and values. You will lead by example by modelling excellent behaviours, and being a positive influence on your team. 

You will be accountable for the integrity of UK ARCC operations by ensuring the adherence to policies and procedures endorsed by the Assistant Director Aviation and Maritime Operations. You will be responsible for the oversight of training and the maintenance of standards through exercises, mission review, and audit. You will ensure that aviation activity initiated by the ARCC can be validated by the UK SAR contract monitoring team, part of the MCA Aviation Team. You will work with the Aviation Team ensuring operational delivery is maintained and developing processes to improve effectiveness. 

Your key responsibilities will include: 

• Leadership – delivering sound leadership, engagement, management and direction qualities throughout the ARCC team 
• Management – balancing resources to ensure efficient response and tolerable workforce loading that gives headroom for professional development of staff 
• Standards – being accountable for the the integrity of UK ARCC operations 
• Continuous Professional Development - ensuring that all staff maintain personal competency levels, undertaking both individual and team continuation training as well as exercise participation 
• Contract management - working with the Aviation Contracts Team to validate aviation activity to support contractual payments and contribute to the generation of UK SAR statistics 
• Innovation – identifying efficiencies and improvements with the Aviation Team for the delivery of UK SAR provision 

About you 

A deeply engaging leader, you have experience of leading teams in a response environment or similar discipline. You have proven, meaningful experience in operational delivery, supported by demonstrable knowledge and expertise in command and control. 

You demonstrate resilience and have the capability to make quick decisions whilst understanding the impact they make across the Agency. 

You have exceptional interpersonal skills to communicate with a wide range of internal and external partners. You demonstrate good listening skills and effectively communicate using a range of methods with integrity and respect for others.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is an executive agency of the United Kingdom working to prevent the loss of lives at sea and is responsible for implementing British and international maritime law and safety policy. It is also responsible for land based search and rescue helicopter operations from 2015.
