Part Time (18.5hours)

The main purpose of the role is to be responsible for the care, health and welfare of police dogs. Maintaining kennel block and associated areas, maintenance and issue of search equipment, and to provide administration support.
Main Responsibilities:
To provide a standard of care for police dogs in accordance with legislation & policy, exercising the dogs on a twice daily basis. To monitor gift dogs for pre-assessment & suitability.
To clean the kennels & kennel block ensuring surrounding areas of dog section are maintained, identifying any problems & ensuring they are resolved.
To provide & manage a clipping service for police dogs.
To administer and monitor all vaccinations (and due dates) and provide parasitical treatment for all dogs as per veterinary guidelines.
To transport dogs to vets, ensuring the control of the dog during examinations / treatment & administering veterinary treatment as prescribed.
To transport, collect and erect wooden kennels to handler’s home addresses. To maintain wooden kennels to ensure they are fit for purpose & issue.
To order, collect, receive and distribute dog food and any other equipment.
To maintain dog records, deal with FOI requests and assorted administrative duties, answer phones and deal with enquiries.
To maintain police search trailer and equipment and issue when required for both pre planned & spontaneous operational requirements.
To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.
Experience/Skills:
Good working knowledge of dogs & kennel husbandry
Understanding the needs of working dogs.
Understanding of medical issues, differentiating between required veterinary treatment or ability to treat in house.
Substantial experience working in a kennel environment and handling a multitude of dogs.
Driving licence
Good oral and written communication skills both internal and external to the organisation.
Good IT skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
