Role Overview
Provide commercial leadership to an established portfolio of telecom services. Reporting to the Head of Commercial (Power & Telecoms) and the Account Lead for a portfolio of £40m worth of services.
The portfolio has a variety of work disciplines ranging from maintenance activities to capital projects. The client base is varied
This is an opportunity for a motivated commercial lead to impact on the way the portfolio undertakes its business and grows.
The role is accountable for the management of 10+ commercial resource.

Core Responsibilities
- Efficiently manage all commercial aspects of each contract and maintain regular liaison with all stakeholders
- Lead and Mentor the commercial resource to be market leading.
- Ensure achievement of annual (and monthly) commercial objectives and targets
- In line with the account lead set the annual contract plan & monitor / deliver performance against it
- Influence the work winning process
- Management and negotiation of key contract terms for new (& where appropriate existing contracts) to minimise business risk and maximise returns
- Improving existing processes & management for:
- Cost & value capture
- Subcontractor relationships and management
- Weekly profit and loss production and evaluation
- Application process and accuracy
- Value recovery, billing and WIP identification
- Proactive management of cash (inflow and outflow)
- Compliance with AMEY systems and processes to deliver contract management
- Key client liaison from a commercial perspective
- Work closely with Account Leader to deliver required contract improvements
- Improvement of Profit and working capital position
- Drive a culture of margin improvement
- Implement and Drive monthly performance reviews taking accountability for performance to interrogate performance and ensure appropriate actions in place to resolve any underperformance
- Ensure contract compliance from an operational and commercial perspective and drive this as through business culture
- Run commercial workshops where appropriate
- Manage risk profile and compete monthly risk appraisals
- Compliance with ad hoc and year-end audit requirements and lead commercial liaison with external audit company
- Identification of opportunities and ability to close out to the benefit of the company
- Ability to manage client disputes including appointment of legal advice where required
- Implement and lead team meetings on a regular basis
What are we looking for?
Key Experience:
- Management of subcontractors
- Leadership of a significant team (c10+)
- Leadership of a multidiscipline team (Senior QS, QS, Commercial Managers, Commercial assistants)
- Experience of a variety of contracts
- High volume activity contracts
- Management and production of cost value reconciliations
- Experience of turnaround contracts
- Delivering management information into Business Director team
- Commercial management of £40m+ p.a. contract
- Development of key relationships with senior stakeholders
- Identification of process and performance GAPS and resolution of issues through development of improvements
Technical competencies:
- Demonstrable NEC (Options A,B,C &E) experience
- Degree qualification (RICS accredited or equivalent) is desirable but not essential
- Sound knowledge of contracts.
- Awareness of industry issues.
- Good health, safety and environmental awareness.
