Project Manager – Titford Pools and Canal Improvement
£27,000 pro rata - Part-time, fixed term contract for two years
At the Canal & River Trust, we believe life’s better by water, and that the waterways we take care of have an important contribution to make to the health and wellbeing of local communities and economies. The Titford Pools and Canal Improvement Project is typical of the work we do. Part funded by the EU through the European Regional Development Fund, it involves dredging two pools near the M5 motorway to create a lovely spot for local people to visit, go for a walk or cycle ride, or simply enjoy spending time outdoors.
If you’re passionate about providing communities with good quality green and waterspace, then this is your opportunity to play a key role in the project and make a positive impact on people’s health and wellbeing.
About the role
Your focus will be on engaging with the local community, maintaining communication with key stakeholders and making sure the project achieves its aims in creating a great spot for local people. At the same time, you will be responsible for identifying resource needs, developing and agreeing budgets, and recruiting and leading the project team. You will also be responsible for monitoring and reporting on progress against key project milestones.
About you
We’re looking for a highly experienced project manager, with a degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline, membership of an appropriate professional body, and proven post-qualification experience of managing multiple complex projects across different sectors. This should include specific experience of managing environmental improvement projects with a key community focus and, ideally, some experience of managing EU funding. A confident and skilled communicating – in person, in writing and online – you will be able to manage a wide range of stakeholders, both inside and outside the Trust, including people all the way up to executive level. Some knowledge of SAP and procurement processes is also important.
About us
We’re the charity who look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of canals and rivers. Our waterways contribute to the health and wellbeing of local communities and economies, creating attractive and connected places to live, work, volunteer and spend leisure time. These historic, natural and cultural assets form part of the strategic and local green-blue infrastructure network, linking urban and rural communities as well as habitats. Our waterways are on the doorstep of 8 million people and reach some of the most deprived communities within the UK. By caring for our waterways and promoting their use we believe we can improve the wellbeing of our nation. Come and be part of it.
To apply
We aim to represent the diverse communities we are part of and welcome applicants from across all sectors of the community. We strongly believe that a diverse workforce brings with it a diversity of ideas, thinking and ways of working which enhances what we do. Many of our vacancies can be considered for people who wish to work flexibly, job share or part time.
