DESCRIPTION

Interested in researching, understanding and communicating the policy issues surrounding Brexit?

We’re looking for Policy Adviser, European and International Affairs to ensure the effective coordination of all the ABI work on Brexit. You’ll be providing key analysis to colleagues and working with other trade associations to understand the impact of Brexit on our industry. Don't just take our word for it, head to Julie's blog to find out what it's like to work in the European and International team: https://www.abi.org.uk/news/blog-articles/2019/07/senior-policy-adviser-julie-shah-blogs/

This job is a fixed term contract until the end of 2019. Please note we are open to a discussion regarding part-time or flexible working. Please contact [email protected] or make a note in your cover letter.

Your role:

As Policy Adviser, you’ll undertake detailed and complex analysis of Brexit-related policy, particularly in relation to the EU Withdrawal Bill, and the onshoring of relevant EU legislation, in the lead up to the UK’s exit, and in the aftermath.

Day to day you will:

  • Support the delivery of ABI workstreams associated with Brexit, working with colleagues across the organisation but in particular with the Public Affairs and Communications team to ensure ABI engagement on Brexit-related issues is joined up and on track.
  • Build effective relationships with staff in member firms based on a strong understanding of their commercial environment and the potential impacts of the changes associated with Brexit.
  • Work with key external stakeholders and other trade associations in relation to Brexit-related workstreams, notably in City groups and Insurance Europe.
  • Support the Head of EU and International in the further formulation of policy proposals relating to the possible Future Economic Relationship (FER), and other relevant EU policies as appropriate.
  • Build effective relationships with key stakeholders in ABI member firms based on a strong understanding of their commercial environment and the impact of regulation and legislation on their businesses and customer base.

We’re looking for:

You’ll need some prior involvement in Brexit discussions and in addition, be extremely good at analysing information quickly and communicating the impact of that information to others. A persuasive, assertive and friendly communication style will stand you in good stead and help you represent our members.

Excellent analytical skills and the ability to understand technical policy and regulatory information is vital. You’ll also need to be able to make this information accessible for a wide range of audiences. Project management skills and knowing who to involve and when will help you navigate this complex topic with a range of stakeholders – both internal and external.

Familiarity with EU procedures and experience of the EU institutions would be an advantage but is not required.

What training and benefits are offered?

On your first day you’ll be met by our HR team for a full company induction. You’ll then have inductions to get you up to speed with anything from Events to how our finances work, plus one to ones with relevant colleagues. Everyone goes on the CII Introduction to Insurance course and will receive plenty of on the job training. We host various Staff Learning Events throughout the year and you will be able to attend relevant ABI and industry events.

Additional training will be tailored to your own personal needs and aspirations and we have a range of courses as part of our Learning and Development offering.

More detail on our company benefits can be found here.
