Contract: Initially 6 months with possibility of permanent

The role

The UK Hydrographic Office, based in award-winning offices in Taunton, Somerset, is seeking a Lights Production Officer to join the Global Publishing team and support the Lights Production Manager in the verification, maintenance and publication of 15 annual New Editions of the ADMIRALTY List of Lights and Fog Signals and 16 annual New Editions of the ADMIRALTY List of Radio Signals and associated digital outputs.

Specific tasks will include:

• Verifying content and maintaining the POLAR (Production of Lights and Radio Signals) Lights List Database
• Preparing New Editions for submission to the Digital Imaging Department (DID) prior to printing
• Checking all Section V NtMs for accuracy and consistency and providing feedback to lights editors on any errors found and ensure they are recorded in HORNET
• Contributing to the further development of POLAR and ADLL including the testing of new releases of software
• Carrying out communication with the POLAR software provider (Chersoft), as and when required to ensure all systems operate correctly
• Deputising for the Lights Production Manager during periods of absence

Required Technical/Functional Skills and Experience

• Sound working knowledge of POLAR, ADLL and SDRA 
• Good understanding of light characteristics, their representation in Lights Lists and on charts 
• A comprehensive knowledge of the UKHO product range and relationship between products and departments 
• Attention to detail and proof-reading skills
