Job description

As the Business Manager, you will work within the department’s Digital Service (DS) Business Relationship Management team, reporting directly to the Head of CIO (Chief Information Officer) Advisory. 

You will be responsible for managing a team of Business Finance Managers, Communication and Assurance roles. You will also be responsible for developing the business and financial plans in conjunction with the digital service leadership team and helping secure the resources needed to deliver the functions vision and mission. 

This is a phenomenal time to join us as we establish the team and deliver a major digital transformation programme. Next year, we will: 

• Provide the Digital, Data and Technology capabilities that equip everyone to work. 
• Drive efficiency by optimising the Department’s business processes. 
• Increase workforce productivity by delivering smarter, better services and a digital culture. 
• Provide advice and expertise to policymakers on the impact of technology in the transport system. 

This team will ensure Digital Service is doing things in the right way and achieving the levels of service and delivery that are committed to. There will be a focus on monitoring delivery and improvement plans against performance indicators and identifying where early interventions are needed to prevent issues. 

Roles Responsibilities include and not limited to: 

Reporting to the Head of CIO (Chief Information Officer) Advisory, this role will: 
• Lead a team of Business Management, Communications and Assurance roles creating a culture of performance improvement 
• Develop the business and finance plans in conjunction with the Digital Service Leadership team and secure the resources needed to deliver the functions vision and mission. 
• Understand and provide actionable insight on how Digital Service is performs in its contribution to DfT’s objectives and own improvement plans including monitoring, managing and reporting on transformation, financial and commercial performance. 
• Continuously monitor and in partnership lead the overall performance of the Digital Service functions, including operational, finance, HR and supplier performance, as well as strategy alignment, providing a single view of Digital Service as a whole. 
• Identify and drive continual improvements, by applying best-practice performance improvement techniques and approaches.

You’ll will have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to connect cross functional teams including HR and finance. You will be passionate about understanding business needs and process a deep user focus, striving to design services that meet user needs. You will strong ownership and strategic thinking skills and the experience of service reporting.

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths, Experience and Technical skills.

The sift is due to take place Week Commencing 9th September. 

Interviews/assessments are likely to be held Week Commencing 23rd September. 

Interviews will likely be held in London.
