Job Title: SEN Nanny

Nearest Train Station: University Station, Birmingham Moor Street OR New street
Wage / Salary: £16.00+ gross per hour
Driver required? Essential
Use of a car? Yes, whilst on duty
Essential Experience: Good SEN background. Working with children with movement difficulties and must be a non-smoker.
Start Date: ASAP
End Date: Initially to cover maternity leave but looking to add to Jake’s care Days & Hours: One day a week (flexible on which day), 8.00 am to 6.00 pm. (The day can be fixed or flexible). There will be additional hours available for babysitting and school holidays.

Jake aged 5 can be quite the charmer, he enjoys music, being read to and has a soft spot for chocolate buttons! His older brother Elliot is a cheeky and adventurous 7 year old who will definitely keep you on your toes.

Jake has a heart condition called Long QT syndrome. Although this is a lifelong condition it is under control using beta blockers and a pacemaker so it does not significantly impact him on a daily basis. In addition to this Jake has profound bilateral hearing loss and had cochlear implants switched on in July 2015. In terms of speech, he uses a direct access high-tech AAC. Jake has a movement disorder and cannot sit unaided, crawl or walk. Despite all his difficulties, Jake is happy, loves a joke and is helped by a large team of doctors, physiotherapists, conductors, speech and language therapists and is making regular progress.

The SEN Nanny will be involved in some of Jake’s appointments if this falls on the day you are working.. Elliott attends prep school and Jake is at Conductive Education. The majority of your role will be focused around Jake but you will also have the opportunity to spend time with Elliott and will pick him up from school occasionally. Part of your role will involve nursery duties relating to the boys and batch cooking.

The right person will be used to handling a child with a movement disorder, have a warm and caring nature, a confident demeanour, natural affinity working with young children, a sense of playfulness and be able to be firm with Elliott when needed. You also need to be comfortable working alongside mum at times. A non-smoker is essential and a swimmer would be a bonus. For more information please contact Rachael at Snap who has met with this welcoming family.

Please note, whilst Snap endeavour to reply to all applications, some of our positions are so popular this is not possible and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted
