The Home Office is here to make our country safer. Border Force is a Law Enforcement arm of the Home Office with primary responsibility for UK Border Security, including counter terrorism, immigration and customs matters. We are responsible for managing the UK border control by enforcing immigration and customs regulations and working with the wider Home Office on organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking.

Border Force Officer Role

As a Border Force Officer, you will be part of a 24 hour a day, 365 days a year operation and you will be working at one of the UK’s 140 seaports.

line management responsibility for Border Force Assistant Officers and Apprentices.

Support in Processing of documentation/data;

Supply chain assurance activity;

*

Resolving problems in relation to assessment and interception of targets and deciding best course of action;

*

Contributing to risk testing by gathering and making best use of intelligence; •Dealing with casework / queries;

*

Investigating errors and initiating offence action as appropriate including attendance as an official witness in court; Replying to correspondence and complaints within charter standards;

*

Interpreting and applying law, controls and regulations; Ensuring operations comply with law and departmental strategies. Reporting the outcome of any investigation as a witness in court when required.

Because of the work we do and the places we work Border Force staff can operate in sometimes difficult and pressurised environments. For this role team working is important and making well balanced decisions is key. As an officer working for Border Force you may have line management responsibility for Border Force Assistant Officers and Border Force Administrative Assistants.

Previous background in security is not required. Instead, you should be able to work flexibly within a team environment, as priorities can change rapidly.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to be confident when working with the public;

Experience as a team-player, supporting colleagues and team members to deliver key outcomes;

The ability to plan, collaborate, and deliver, including through others, to short deadlines;

Good written and oral communication and data entry skills:

Person specification

If you are an external candidate, you must hold two A Levels at Grade E or higher. Please note that we will also accept equivalent qualifications at the same level achieved from a wide range of formal academic and vocational training providers.
