Job description

We’re looking for a Senior External Affairs Manager to join one of the best External Affairs teams in Whitehall. Within your role you will:
 

Responsibilities

• Build effective and proactive relationships with key organisations in the transport, business and supply chain sectors to support the Department’s objectives; 
• Lead the development and delivery of stakeholder handling and engagement strategies for high-profile issues such HS2, Northern Powerhouse Rail and airports expansion; 
• Provide strategic advice to Ministers and our Executive Committee on stakeholder engagement and handling; 
• Produce briefings and communications material for key audiences, such as businesses and industry organisations, to promote better understanding of key issues and initiatives; 
• Gather intelligence and analyse the effectiveness of external engagement to help inform current and future engagement strategies; 
• Establish common engagement principles and best practice to improve the quality of stakeholder engagement across the department and its agencies. 

About you: 

You will have a background in public affairs or stakeholder engagement, with experience of working on high profile issues. You will have excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing with the ability to adapt your delivery to suit a wide variety of stakeholders, maximising both impact and understanding. 

You will be proactive and someone who works on their own initiative to build effective working relationships with stakeholders, Ministers and Senior Officials. You will be well organised with the ability to work efficiently under pressure and at pace, where you can manage multiple and often conflicting priorities to tight deadlines and a high standard.

• an interview 
• an interview with one or more exercises
