Admiralty List of Radio Signals (ALRS) Senior Editor - Flexible Working Available

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the Admiralty List of Radio Signals (ALRS) Team at the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO), supporting the assessment and analysis of incoming data received on our products and Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). 

The UKHO is a leading centre for hydrography, providing marine geospatial data to inform maritime decisions. We work with a wide range of data suppliers and partners to support maritime navigation, safety, security and marine development around the UK and worldwide. The ALRS Team sits within the wider Impact Analysis Group and focuses on information relating to MSI, GMDSS, radio aids to navigation, VTS, pilot services and port information that may affect the ALRS Volumes and needs to be communicated to mariners. 

As a Senior Editor, you will use your specialist knowledge/experience to approve the analysis of incoming data, the quality of databases and the subsequent generation of product updates from such databases, which will help to ensure the safety of mariners at sea.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Managing incoming ALRS workflows on the Source Data Receipt and Assessment (SDRA) system and distributing data to appropriate editors

• Ensuring the correct interpretation of source data and approving ALRS workflows in SDRA

• Verifying Section VI Notice to Mariners and POLAR database

• Providing advice regarding Radio Signals within UKHO and to customers and external stakeholders

You will also be expected to ensure updates and products meet the KPI measures for timeliness and quality and actively contribute to technical and process developments required to meet future needs and challenges. 

If you can bring knowledge of the principles of radio propagation, DSC, NAVTEX, GMDSS, VTS and Pilotage information to the role, with proven technical understanding and working knowledge of the ALRS suite of products and experience manipulating data within a GIS database we would be delighted to hear from you.
