To become the most efficient single runway in the world Gatwick has had to set a number of world firsts in terms of process, people and technology excellence in a highly complex and fast moving environment. GAL has won numerous awards in its history, including over ten major awards in 2017 alone. These awards include airport of the year; best airport; favourite airport for short-haul flights and marketing campaign of the year by a retailer.

The Role:

  • Are you enthusiastic, dedicated, flexible and approachable?
  • Do you have experience of providing excellent customer service?
  • Do you want a fulfilling role which is of vital importance to Gatwick Airport and is critical in helping to keep both passengers and staff safe?

If the answer to the above questions is yes, then this is the opportunity you have been waiting for.

We are looking for Airport Security Officers to join us in 2019/2020

With your help, we can make Gatwick known for its warm welcome, ease of use, on-time performance and exemplary service. This will then give our passengers the best experience whilst travelling through the airport.

We value every person that works with us and reward them and their commitment to us by providing great opportunities for development, excellent rewards and the chance to make a real difference in the lives of our customers. We love what we do! We would love you to join us.

What will the role involve?

Why not check out the video attached to this vacancy? This will give you an excellent understanding and insight to the role from the viewpoint of two of our current Airport Security Officers. A full role profile is also attached detailing the day to day tasks.

Are you able to:

  • work a variety of shifts including nights, early starts (0245 am), weekends, religious and public holidays and are able to get to the airport when public transport may not be available?
  • be flexible (some rosters also mean you will only receive two weeks' notice of the shift pattern to be worked)?
  • stand for long periods of time, reach up and bend down during body searches and lift hand luggage?
  • read, write and speak fluent English?

If the answers to the above are yes - then we would like to hear from you.

What happens if I am successful?

If you pass all stages of the selection process, you will be placed on our waiting list for 2019/2020. Before we can offer you a start date, we will need to have obtained counter-terrorist clearance (CTC) for you from the Civil Aviation Authority. Due to the nature of this check, we can only accept applications from candidates who have physically lived in the UK for the last 3 years (or have been in the UK Armed Forces).

Once we have this clearance, we will then look at available start dates for you and will make you a conditional offer subject to full pre-employment checks. These checks include completion of a pre-employment health questionnaire, full five years' references and basic criminal record check.

Continued employment will be subject to you passing the 3.5 week training course, including the National Xray Competency Test. We will do all we can to ensure you pass the test and you will be fully supported and coached by our excellent training team.

Does this sound like the role you have been waiting for? Yes? Then please apply now!

Gatwick Airport is committed to providing equal opportunities to all of our candidates. If you require us to make any reasonable adjustments to enable you to complete the process, please contact the Recruitment Team on 0845 266 0070 option 1 or email galrecruitment @gatwickairport.com so that we can try to accommodate your needs. Any information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence.

Company

Gatwick Airport is a major international airport near Crawley in southeast England, 29.5 miles south of Central London. It is the second-busiest airport by total passenger traffic in the United Kingdom, after London Heathrow

Gatwick opened as an aerodrome in the late 1920s, it has been in use for commercial flights since 1933. The airport has two terminals, the North Terminal and the South Terminal, which cover areas of 98,000 m2(1,050,000 sq ft) and 160,000 m2 (1,700,000 sq ft) respectively. It operates as a single-runway airport, using a main runway with a length of 3,316 m (10,879 ft). A secondary runway is available but, due to its proximity to the main runway, can only be used if that is out of use. In 2017, 45.6 million passengers passed through the airport, a 5.2% increase compared with 2016.
