We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Transport Modeller into the Aviation and Maritime Analysis unit to join us at an exciting time for DfT.
This role provides a great opportunity to apply transport modelling expertise to complex, multi-modal and ground-breaking modelling challenges, providing expert advice on modelling approaches taken to support the appraisal of strategic schemes across DfT’s investment portfolio.
You will have the opportunity to use your expertise to ensure that decisions on future transport investments are supported by the best possible evidence.

This is a varied role in a high profile organisation, so alongside practical experience of working with transport models, you will need to have great communication skills and the ability to understand how your work fits into the bigger picture.
Modellers in the Department for Transport are part of a wider multidisciplinary community of analysts (economists, modellers, social researchers, statisticians, operational researchers, scientists and engineers). DfT has a very strong reputation for analysis and use of evidence in policy making.
Transport Modellers have a vital role in policy making and investment decisions within the department and they provide a key and unique component of the Departmental Analytical Toolkit. We are currently recruiting two positions within the Aviation Appraisal and Modelling team. On a day to day basis your duties will include –
• Maintaining and developing transport models and producing model runs and analysis to inform the development of departmental aviation policy.
• Assuring the evidence base by maintaining and developing the Department’s transport modelling and appraisal capabilities.
• Providing evidence on future trends in, and drivers of, national strategic transport outcomes.
• Responding to detailed queries and requests for information from the model from a variety of stakeholders.
We are looking for an enthusiastic transport modeller with excellent communication skills and an ability to see the bigger picture to join the modelling team within the evolving aviation team.
You will have proven experience of developing strategic models to solve complex problems, or good overall knowledge of transport modelling.
You will combine strong technical and analytical skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a range of technical and non-technical audiences and to take account of strategic concerns when formulating and delivering work plans.
