Job Details

We are looking for a politically astute Press & External Affairs Officer to play a key role in helping L&Q navigate one of the most challenging and exciting periods in our history.

With a background in public affairs or communications, you will have proven experience of producing high quality external stakeholder content, policy and political briefings for senior internal clients, and a keen understanding of the machinery of government, from local authorities and the Greater London Authority to Downing Street.

As a member of the busy external affairs team, you will also be needed to provide reactive and crisis communications support in response to various media enquiries. You will therefore be able to demonstrate your experience of media handling and an ability to juggle multiple deadlines and competing priorities under pressure.

No two days are ever the same at L&Q, and you’ll be working across business areas from Research & Strategy to fire safety. Your writing abilities will translate complex policy and technical language into plain English and help maximize public and political understanding of our work.

Ideally your previous experience might include work in the housing or related sectors, or work for a high-profile charity, but we are open applications from all industries.

Reporting to the Press and External Affairs Manager, this is a key post within a dynamic Communications Team. You’ll be self-motivated and able to work under your own initiative, but it’s also crucial that you’re a team player and supportive of the wider communications strategy.

At a time when housing tops both the public and political agenda, there has arguably never been more important to time to join us.

Our Commitments:

At L&Q, people are at the heart of our business and our success depends on employing the best people and getting the best from them. This is why we are committed to developing our people. It's only by investing in a well-trained and motivated workforce that we can continue to prosper and sustain business success.

In addition to our support and training, the successful candidate will have access to our full suite of benefits including 26 days holiday rising to 31 days with length of service, annual bonus subject to group performance, excellent Pension scheme, Benenden Healthcare, an employee assistance programme and non-contributory life assurance.

We are committed to supporting your work-life balance and recognise the changing demands and circumstances in life. Please let us know during the recruitment process if you’re interested in part time working or job sharing. In addition, should your circumstances change once you have joined L&Q, you can also request flexible working arrangements, e.g. a change to working hours - if it’s feasible then we’ll make it happen.

We are recognised externally for our commitment to inclusion. We are a Stonewall Diversity Champion, a Disability Confident (Committed) employer and have signed the Time to Change Employer Pledge to demonstrate our commitment to end mental health discrimination in the workplace.

We expect all our employees to support our environmental policy and social responsibility work. We are an employer committed to environmental and social responsibility.

Company

We house around 250,000 people in more than 105,000 homes, primarily across London and the South East – but we’re more than just a registered charitable housing association.
