Position: Senior LCMS Analyst
Location: Bedford
Type: Part Time, Permanent (2 or 3 days per week)
Salary: £28,000 - £35,000 (DOE) (Pro rata)
The Position:
RPS is looking for an experienced LC Analyst to join our iso17025 Accredited Laboratory. This is a pivotal position within the Laboratory, managing the output of a team of Analysts and Extraction Chemists to ensure projects are delivered on-time and achieving a range of KPIs set by the Laboratory Manager.
You will have overall responsibility for the entire analytical process for a specific business stream, from sample extraction to data analysis and reporting of results. As Senior Analyst, you will also be responsible for developing, optimising and (where appropriate) validating methods for the detection and quantification of pesticides, primarily using LC-MS/MS. Given the rapidly changing nature of the industry there will also be a requirement to develop methods for novel and/or emerging environmental contaminant in line with industry and commercial requirements.
Key responsibilities:
* Manage a business-stream to deliver output to agreed targets as set by the Laboratory Manager
* Operate HPLC, IC and single and triple quadrupole LC-MS instrumentation, as well as other laboratory equipment as required
* Supervise Analysts and Extractors within the LC Section
* Work with Extraction staff within the laboratory to ensure samples are prepared for analysis according to customer requirements
* Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical equipment
* Apply advanced analytical skills to implement assigned projects and to identify and trouble-shoot situations needing special attention
* Work with the Section Head – LC to develop, optimise and validate analytical methodology
* Conduct troubleshooting of analytical methods.
Ideal skills/experience:
* BSc in Chemistry or related subject
* Solid experience working within an accredited analytical testing laboratory, ideally within the environmental sector
* Excellent understanding and technical knowledge of HPLC, IC, LC-MS and LC-MS/MS systems
* Proven experience of training and mentoring junior staff
* Able to work to and achieve defined targets
* Experience of conducting routine maintenance and troubleshooting of HPLC, IC, LC-MS and LC-MS/MS systems
* Used to working under laboratory quality assurance programs e.g. ISO 17025
