About our Trust

Our Trust is rated as 'Outstanding for Caring' by the CQC - fundamental to this is the way that we value and respect our staff. At every level, we value the diversity of our colleagues and actively champion an inclusive culture. We believe that everyone without exception should feel free to be their authentic self in the workplace.

We understand that work is only one part of life. We are committed to helping our colleagues achieve the best possible work\/life balance. We proudly offer supportive, inclusive and family friendly employment and flexible working policies. We have a wide range of professional services and employee networks to help our colleagues be at their best - and find support if they need it.

Our Trust is already a Disability Confident employer and we are holding ourselves to account through the Workplace Disability Equality Standard (WDES). Our work on promoting equity and inclusion for our Black, and Minority Ethnic (BME) colleagues continues to be driven by engagement with the WRES (Workforce Race Equality Standard) and the WRES Experts Programme.

In 2019, we committed ourselves to becoming a Stonewall Top 100 LGBTQ+ Employer. We also support the national 'Veteran Aware' scheme and are an ERS Silver accredited Hospital who welcomes applications from all members of the Armed Forces communities.

For our patients, we do everything we can to deliver fair access to all our services. This includes providing interpretative and other services to meet the needs of disabled communities. We're careful to show sensitivity towards ethnic, cultural and religious differences. Our staff uphold these values and so help our care to get better all the time.

About this vacancy

Are you a nurse with a drive for acute and emergency care experience who wants to make their career at the Major Trauma Centre of the Royal Sussex County Hospital?

Brighton & Sussex University Hospital NHS Trust will have opportunities for nurses to join our Emergency Department team at the Royal Sussex County site.

We are committed to the delivery of quality care in an unpredictable environment. We encourage innovation and participation in the development of new ways of working through multidisciplinary collaboration to achieve patient-focused outcomes.

Under a new management structure, the department is developing a transformation strategy that involves significant re-development in our Urgent Care services, the completion of a simulation suite and a staff-led self-rostering project, alongside the hospital's ongoing 3T's work and the planned re-build for the acute floor and emergency department over the next 18 months.

The department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital is a major trauma unit, receiving patients from throughout Surrey and Sussex. All nurses will have the opportunity to rotate into our five-bedded resus department to work with our resus specialist nurses.

Our education team will provide orientation and support for you within the department. There are many opportunities for in-house training on emergency skills such as venepuncture and cannulation, plastering, suturing and catheterisation. We fund applications to the University of Brighton for the mentorship module. We are also a Manchester Triage training centre and regularly offer internal courses to allow our nurses to become nationally recognised triage practitioners.

All of our nurses and paramedics have the opportunity to work cross-site at the Royal Sussex County Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital.

We are proud to be able to offer a variety of flexible working options and contracts. For further information please refer to the Flexible Working for Registered Nurses document which is attached to this advert.
