Job description

If you are a driven and motivated individual who seeks a challenging and rewarding career within a commercial role, then we will provide you with first class training and development and an opportunity to work on major and high profile projects.

You’ll either have a 2:1 degree or a master’s degree to apply, or be qualified or part-qualified in procurement, accountancy or project management or a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in a commercially focused role. The important thing is that you're passionate about developing yourself professionally, can demonstrate a high level of numeracy and have the potential to take on a leadership role.
 

Responsibilities

What will you be doing? The programme will run for three years and will include a diverse range of commercial based roles across the department, these include; Rail Franchising, High Speed Rail, Complex Commercial Procurement, Major Contract Management, Commercial Policy Development and Project Financing.

We are looking to develop future leaders with specialist commercial knowledge and skills, as these are critical to the overall success of the department and Civil Service. In addition, your ability to lead and encourage others will also be essential to this role.

What’s in it for you? Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths, Ability and Experience.

This campaign is due to close on the 18th November 2019. Following your initial short application you will be sent an online Verbal and Numerical reasoning test that you will need to complete before the campaign closes on 18th November. You are advised to complete the test before this to give you time to If you are successful in these tests you will be invited to complete the 2nd part of your application, which is your evidence of suitability against the behaviours listed in this advert. You will then be sent a link to complete an online Situational Judgement test where you will have 5 working days to complete. Please ensure that you check your Junk Folder within your email account for the links to complete the online tests.

A sift will take place w/c 09/12/19, and those candidates who are successful will be invited to the final assessment, which will be held in London between the end of February and early March. Travel costs will be funded to those candidates who are invited to the Assessment Centre, where you will receive a notification of how to book your travel well in advance .

We will try to meet the dates set out in the advert. There may be occasions when these dates will change. You will be provided with sufficient notice of the confirmed dates.

Should a large number of applications be received, the initial sift may be conducted using a lead behaviour. This will be the behaviour which is listed first in the job advert. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate the essential role requirements within the application behaviour responses.

The selection process will be designed specifically for the role. As a result, your assessment could include:

• an interview
• an interview with one or more exercises
• a full day of activities including interactive, written and timed exercises

Further Information

We may hold a merit list for up to twelve months. During this time, if a similar role is identified and you have been placed on the merit list you may be considered for the post.
