Maintenance Manager

About the role:
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Maintenance Manager to join our Operations team to organise and manage new and existing maintenance contracts, support with out major refurbishment and minor works projects for building & engineering services across the WHSmith Travel estate.

The role will be based from our London offices in Houndsditch but will involve occasional travel across the UK to our stores and suppliers.

What you'll be doing:

* Appoint and manage external service providers and suppliers including contract negotiation
* Management of suppliers to work within SLA's and improve performance
Monitor, control and manage revenue, contractual and capital maintenance budgets
* Management of our chiller repair and replacement programme
* Ensure value for money through existing and new suppliers by tendering and negotiation to deliver optimum service levels at minimum cost
* Ensure the Estate is maintained to fully comply with all relevant legislation and Landlord requirements
* Mechanical, electrical, Heating, ventilation and refrigeration design specification and performance requirements
* Carry out refurbishment, minor works and roll out projects and provide technical support to the construction team
* Ensure compliance with accountable contractors by monitoring performance, regular inspections and review meetings
* Controlling and prioritising expenditure and determining forward maintenance capital and revenue expenditure
* Liaise with internal teams to ensure necessary support to achieve maintenance objectives
* Occasional travel to sites with some overnight stays required

What we are looking for:


* Previous experience within a similar role is essential, managing a National estate is highly desirable
* Experience within a Retail environment would be highly beneficial
* Wide knowledge of Building Services Installations and their associates equipment including chilled cabinets
* Sound knowledge of building fabric maintenance and building terms and techniques
* Strong knowledge of heating, ventilation and refrigeration is essential
* Good knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation and other legislation related to building services
* Self motivated
* Exceptional interpersonal and strong communication skills
* Ability to prioritise and work effectively under pressure
* Recognised Building Services Qualification to HNC/HND level would be highly desirable
* Valid UK driving licence with the flexibility to travel
