We know that returning to work after a career break can be a daunting prospect, which is why we are offering a Returnship Program which is here to help. Our Returners Program is a 6-month placement which has been specifically designed to bridge the gap between taking a career break of two years or more and re-entering the workplace. We want you to capitalise on your existing experience, refresh your skills and knowledge whilst equipping you with the confidence to return to work. It gives meaningful experience, with the wraparound of coaching, mentoring support and training.

We are looking for an Applications Engineer to join our Gas Turbine business in Warwick. This role works within the Modifications and Upgrades (M&Us) team and provides support and leadership in the overall scope for the upgrade. This can include the Engine, Package Mechanical, Package Electrical, Controls, related technical aspects of the proposal.

It is a highly collaborative role and an integral part of the project team as you will interface with Customers, Sales team, APMs, Project Managers, Project Lead Engineers, Key Experts, Tech support, Field Service, and Project Engineering.

What support can I expect?

 

  • Mentoring - A mentor and buddy will be assigned to support your introduction and ongoing personal development within Siemens
  • Training - As part of the Technology and Innovation team, support will be on hand with on the job training in relation to our technology which will be the focus for data collection
  • Additional training - Siemens offers a range of training courses and these will be considered and offered to you
  • Induction - A comprehensive induction to the business will be given allowing you to get a deep understanding and appreciation for the various functional teams you may be engaged with.

 

This is your role. What part will you play?

  • Review customer technical specifications (data sheets, P&ID's) and prepare clarifications that provide an acceptable technical solution to both the customer and Siemens.
  • Define the overall scope for the upgrade, including but not limited to Engine, Package Mechanical, Package Electrical, Controls, scope of work complete with required technical definition and associated drawings / drawing markups for the proposal.
  • Confirm cost for scope and associate equipment.
  • Confirm related technical comments & exceptions to customer specifications.
  • Identify and help mitigate associated risks during the bid phase to achieve a successful execution by the project team.
  • Clear communication of project specifications & requirements to both internal & external supply chain.
  • Communication of committed schedule, cost, and scope.
  • Provide detailed engineering/procurement specifications for Major Buy purchased equipment and provide a technical review & commit costs for Sub-Suppliers equipment with agreed comments and exceptions to specifications.
  • Supply project team with final committed Supplier Document Register List (SDRL) & Inspection & Test Plan (ITP).
  • Utilise internal resources to produce bid phase product defined drawings and diagrams. Work with the project team to satisfy contract delivery timeliness of SDRL items and hardware.
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers.

 

What you need to make real what matters.

 

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Field or Engineering Technology or previous experience in the Rotating Machinery Industry
  • Ideally you will experience with Controls or Mechanical Operation and Design
  • Familiarity and understanding of operation of gas turbine or electric motor driven compression equipment
  • Ability to initiate ideas to resolve complex issues into practical engineering solutions
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite including the following: Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint
